Rome Gears Up for Giro d’Italia Grand Finale

Rome, April 29, 2026 – The Eternal City is once again set to host the grand finale of the Giro d’Italia, marking the fourth consecutive year for this prestigious event. On May 31st, the capital will be the stage for the concluding leg of the race, promising a spectacular display against the backdrop of Rome’s iconic landmarks.

The race will commence from Eur, proceed towards Ostia, and after a picturesque passage along the seafront, it will return to the city center. Cyclists will then embark on an eight-lap circuit, winding past the city’s artistic wonders, with the finish line at the historic Circus Maximus. This will be the 51st time the Giro d’Italia has visited the capital, and the eighth occasion it has served as the final stage of the competition.

Official Presentation at the Campidoglio

A grand presentation was held today at the Campidoglio, attended by prominent figures including Rome’s Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, RCS President Urbano Cairo, RCS Sport and Events CEO Paolo Bellino, Councillor for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Alessandro Onorato, two-time Giro d’Italia winner Vincenzo Nibali, and the Director of La Gazzetta dello Sport Stefano Barigelli.

Unveiling the New Pink Jersey

The event also served as the platform for unveiling the new pink jersey. The collar of the jersey features a special insert commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, with the inscription: “The sport that unites, the Italy that inspires,” accompanied by the text “1946-2026 – 80 years – Italian Republic.” The jersey, a symbol of leadership in the general classification, will also display the official sponsor “Io sono Friuli Venezia Giulia” and the logo of “Altograno,” a flour naturally rich in fiber and protein, on the sleeve.

Mayor Gualtieri’s Remarks

Mayor Roberto Gualtieri expressed his pride, stating, “We are proud that Rome is once again hosting the Grand Arrival of the Giro d’Italia, for the fourth consecutive time. This confirms an increasingly solid bond between the Capital and one of the country’s most beloved sporting events, capable of bringing extraordinary images of our city to the world every year. We await 131 kilometers of emotions along a route that passes through Ostia, Rome’s seaside, and some of the city’s most iconic places, from the Colosseum and the Baths of Caracalla to the final finish line at the Circus Maximus. It will be a day of celebration that will accompany the passage of the race and once again convey the energy and beauty of the Capital to millions of people.”

Urbano Cairo’s Satisfaction

Urbano Cairo, President of RCS Mediagroup, shared his enthusiasm: “Bringing the Grand Arrival to the Eternal City for the fourth consecutive year means having built something solid, recognizable, and increasingly appreciated internationally. A source of great pride. The Giro is a story of Italy; there is no better setting than Rome to conclude this long journey through the territories of our country. Alongside the race, numerous collateral initiatives will make this event in the Capital a true celebration of sport, participation, and inclusivity. The Giro d’Italia continues to grow thanks to the many Partners who accompany us. And Rome Capital certainly represents one of the most important, solid, and prestigious partners with whom we carry out our work.”

Family Ride Returns

Following the success of previous editions, which saw over 4,000 participants, the Family Ride is making a comeback. This free event is open to the entire family, adults and children alike, and to anyone who chooses to spend a day enjoying sports by cycling through the streets of one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The event, organized by Roma Capitale and RCS Sports & Events, will take place on the morning of Sunday, May 31st, coinciding with the Grand Arrival.
