Naples, April 29, 2026 – The vibrant heart of Naples is set to host the Vesuvio Wine Day on May 10 and 11, 2026, an unmissable event dedicated to promoting the viticultural, historical, and cultural heritage of the Vesuvius area. Organized by the Consorzio Tutela Vini Vesuvio, the event will take place in the evocative setting of the Monumental Complex of San Lorenzo Maggiore in Piazza San Gaetano.
Two Intense Days of Wine and Culture
The two-day event will feature a rich program of meetings, masterclasses, and sensory journeys designed for specialized press, Horeca operators, and all enthusiasts of fine wines. Over 120 wines from the Vesuvius region will be available for tasting, offering a comprehensive exploration of the area’s unique viticultural landscape.
A Unique Terroir: Ancient Vines and Franc-de-Pied Wines
The Vesuvius area is an exceptional enological district, renowned for its volcanic soil composed of sand, pumice, and lapilli. This particular composition has allowed ancient vines to be preserved from phylloxera, maintaining a heritage of franc-de-pied (ungrafted) vines still cultivated today using the layering method.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the indigenous grape varieties that make the Vesuvio DOP, Pompeiano IGP, and Catalanesca del Monte Somma denominations truly unique:
- White Grapes: Caprettone, Catalanesca, Coda di Volpe, Falanghina, and Greco.
- Red Grapes: Piedirosso (or Per’ ‘e Palummo), Aglianico, and Sciascinoso.
Thanks to an altitude ranging between 200 and 700 meters, Vesuvius wines are distinguished by elegant aromatic profiles, mineral salinity, and a millennial history rooted in Roman times.
