NAPLES, June 9, 2026 – The picturesque beaches of Posillipo are entering a new era following a groundbreaking public auction for beach concessions. The provisional awards have reached an unprecedented total of 247,000 euros, a substantial leap from the approximately 30,000 euros generated by the old system of renewals and consolidated concessions. This outcome underscores the growing value of one of the most coveted stretches of coastline in the Gulf of Naples and heralds a new season for local bathing establishments.
Record-Breaking Bids Multiply Public Revenue
The bidding process, managed by the Port Authority, saw offers far exceeding the initial base prices of 3,524 euros per year. In the first two lots, long-standing operators maintained their positions. Bagno Ideal secured Lot A with a bid of 67,000 euros, while Bagno Elena won Lot B with an offer of 53,000 euros.
This result marks a pivotal moment for public finances, as the amounts offered are more than ten times higher than those seen in the past. This intense competition is unprecedented for the Posillipo coastline. The concessions are valid for two years, and an administrative verification phase is now underway before the definitive awards are announced.
More Free Beach Access for Donn’Anna Waterfront
Beyond the economic impact, another significant development will shape the Neapolitan summer: the new arrangement guarantees over 40% of the beach will be freely accessible to the public. This represents a substantial increase compared to previous concessions, which had been renewed for years without significant changes. Consequently, both residents and industry operators are closely monitoring the start of the bathing season. Concessionaires are hopeful that the Port Authority’s checks will conclude swiftly, given that a portion of the season has already passed.
Romeo Alberghi Secures Most Contested Lot with Staggering Bid
The most notable surprise emerged from Lot C, the smallest yet most fiercely contested plot. Bagno Sirena initially submitted an offer of 20,000 euros. However, Romeo Alberghi dramatically outbid them, raising their offer to 127,000 euros annually. This represents an astonishing 3,502% increase over the base price stipulated in the tender.
Romeo Alberghi’s economic proposal was complemented by an almost perfect technical evaluation score of 68 out of 70 points. This strong technical showing allowed the hotel company to overcome its competitors and become the prospective new operator of this prime beach section.
Fewer Appeals Expected, but Political Debate Continues
Yesterday’s proceedings involved the opening of economic offers following the technical evaluation of the projects. In Lot A, Even More, a company linked to the Michelin-starred restaurant Palazzo Petrucci, was also in contention but was excluded due to documented irregularities. Similarly, competition for Lot B concluded without significant disputes after the exclusion of rival Blue Beach. Operators therefore believe that a new season of appeals is unlikely.
However, the political debate remains open. Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a deputy from the Green and Left Alliance, has already intervened regarding the outcome of Lot C, announcing a new parliamentary inquiry to seek clarification on the procedure. Meanwhile, the Port Authority has 30 days to complete its checks and finalize the provisional awards.
The transformation of Posillipo’s beaches is set to redefine both public access and economic returns, promising a dynamic new chapter for one of Naples’ most cherished coastal areas.
