Municipio XII: Results of the LGBTQIA+ Desk Presented
Rome, May 18, 2026 – A full house and shared experiences marked a significant meeting held at Municipio XII’s headquarters on Via Fabiola, where the results of the LGBTQIA+ Desk were presented. The event, promoted by Municipio XII, focused on the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and the fight against discrimination, fostering an open discussion on social inclusion, emotional education, and available local support tools.
The initiative brought together administrators, social workers, and third-sector organizations to discuss the vital role schools and institutions play in building a more aware and welcoming community. This community aims to address the persistent exclusion and marginalization faced by many individuals.
The LGBTQIA+ Desk: A Reference Point in the Territory
A central part of the meeting was the presentation of the Municipio XII LGBTQIA+ Desk, operational since 2023 and located on Via Panfilo Castaldi, alongside the municipal social secretariat. This service was established to offer listening, guidance, and socio-health support to individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community.
According to Elio Tomassetti, President of Municipio XII, the project was made possible through funds allocated by Roma Capitale for all municipalities. This funding enabled the launch of what he described as an innovative service, capable of networking social assistance, psychological support, and connections with city-wide health services. Tomassetti explained that the desk primarily addresses situations related to violence, discrimination, and psychological difficulties experienced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, building comprehensive support pathways with specialized professionals and local services.
Increasing Numbers and Complex Demands
During the conference, data regarding access to the desk was also presented. In 2023, the service recorded 33 accesses, while in 2025, the number of cases handled rose to 122. President Tomassetti indicated that this growth trend is continuing into 2026. Behind these numbers, he emphasized, are often difficult stories and personal situations marked by suffering and social exclusion. For this reason, the municipal president stressed that institutions have a duty to build protective networks and tools capable of providing concrete answers to the most vulnerable individuals.
Inclusion and Listening as Tools Against Discrimination
One of the central themes that emerged during the discussion was the risk of creating “pockets of discrimination” within society. According to the organizers and participants, ignoring or underestimating these phenomena would amplify conditions of isolation and marginalization already present in many social realities. Tomassetti highlighted the need to strengthen listening tools and multiply public opportunities for discussion on these issues throughout the city.
The president also underscored the importance of an “zero-access” assistance model-one that is easily reachable and free from bureaucratic or social barriers, capable of integrating socio-health reception and psychological support.
