Milan Green Week, a five-day event dedicated to the environment, green spaces, and biodiversity, is set to return from June 10 to 14, 2026. This year’s edition will feature over 200 events, including talks, walks, workshops, and performances, all aimed at showcasing Milan as a “laboratory for ecological transition.”

What is Milan Green Week?

Milan Green Week is a grassroots initiative spread across the city’s nine Municipalities. It brings together the Administration, various associations, institutions, universities, entities, companies, and committees dedicated to transforming Milan into a more resilient city, attentive to environmental issues, green space management, and climate change mitigation.

According to Elena Grandi, Councillor for Environment and Green Spaces, the event serves to highlight the city’s ongoing transformation in response to climate change. “Modifying public spaces, adapting urban transformation choices, protecting biodiversity, increasing parks and green areas, promoting energy transition, and raising awareness through good practices are central to our work,” Grandi stated. “Milan Green Week provides a valuable opportunity to describe and disseminate these efforts, showcasing Milan’s role as a laboratory of ideas and projects for ecological transition.”

Key Events and Highlights

The Milan Green Week kicks off on Tuesday, June 9, at 6:30 PM, with the show “Green Days” at the Burri Theater in Sempione Park. Produced by Campo Teatrale, this performance will explore intergenerational perspectives on daily choices and their impact on the future of the planet.

Starting from June 10, a wide array of appointments will be available, including institutional events organized by the Department of Environment and Green Spaces.

Institutional Events:

  • Youth Assembly for Climate: On June 10, at 10 AM, the Youth Assembly for Climate will convene at the Civic Museum of Natural History.
  • Energy Desk Opening: From June 10 to 12, the City of Milan’s Energy Desk (Corso Buenos Aires, corner Via Giovanni Omboni, pedestrian underpass) will offer extended hours from 10 AM to 2 PM. Citizens can seek information and receive a free copy of the new informational booklet, “Vademecum Impianti Termici” (Thermal Systems Handbook).
  • “The Rights of Animals” Event: On Thursday, June 11, at 3 PM, the Civic Museum of Natural History will host an afternoon dedicated to animals. This event, organized by the Department in collaboration with LAV, the Carabinieri, and the Animal Protection Guarantors of the Municipality of Milan, will foster discussion among institutions, associations, veterinarians, universities, and law enforcement. The discussion will be moderated by popularizer and actor Gianfelice Facchetti.
  • “From Grey to Green: How Cities Change”: On June 12, at 6 PM, a symbolic inauguration of the new green and depaved area in Via Toce will take place. This event will feature a discussion between Elena Grandi and councillors from Bergamo, Brescia, Genoa, and Turin, moderated by Giulia Bassetto of Will Media. The discussion will focus on how cities are transforming to mitigate the effects of climate change.
  • Walk to Discover the Former Innocenti Area: On Saturday, June 13, at 4 PM, a guided walk will explore the green area currently under construction in the former Innocenti area, Lambrate. This project will double the green surface of Lambretta Park as part of the Magnifica Fabbrica del Teatro alla Scala initiative, transforming the area into “Water Gardens” with lawns, tree-lined avenues, canals, and water management systems.
  • “Goccia Fest 26 – Nature Makes Space”: On Saturday, May 13, starting at 10 AM (entrance from Via Privata Giampietrino 4), the first public event in the Goccia area will take place. This festival aims to introduce the city to the site, its biodiversity, and the ongoing environmental regeneration process through educational workshops, guided explorations, meetings, and artistic and creative activities. The event is organized as part of the EUI 02-130 GOCCIA project (Green Opportunities to Clean-up Contaminants through an Interspecies Alliance), funded by the European Urban Initiative of the European Commission.

Numerous botanical walks will also be available, offering opportunities to discover the green spaces and biodiversity of city parks and green areas, including Lambro Park, Forlanini Park, Simoni Lopez Park, the marshes of Chiaravalle and Vettabbia, BAM, and the UpTown Park of Cascina Merlata. Additionally, a multitude of workshops, talks, games, bike excursions, and exhibitions will be organized by various associations, entities, and committees that have consistently supported the Department in Milan Green Week.
