Naples, May 30 – A vast fire has broken out in the Pineta Camaldoli area of Pianura, Naples, specifically along Via Vicinale Pignatello, in close proximity to a quarry. Emergency procedures for interface fires have been activated, and an Advanced Command Post has been established to coordinate operations.

Prefect Convenes Emergency Coordination Meeting

In response to the escalating situation, Michele di Bari, the Prefect of Naples, convened a meeting of the Coordinated Rescue Center (CCS) late this afternoon. The meeting saw the participation of representatives from the Municipality of Naples, the SORU of the Campania Region Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade, law enforcement agencies, and the 118 Emergency Health Service.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that the flames originated near a quarry in the Pianura area, dangerously close to residential dwellings. Consequently, measures specifically designed for interface fires – those occurring between wildland and urban areas – have been implemented to protect the population and property.

On-Site Operations and Coordination Efforts

Currently, the Fire Brigade and regional Civil Protection units are actively working at the scene. Their efforts are focused on containing and extinguishing the fire, while also constantly evaluating the evolution of the scenario to adapt strategies as needed.

To ensure the highest level of coordination among all components of the civil protection and rescue system, the Prefecture of Naples has established a mixed Advanced Command Post. This post comprises representatives from the Fire Brigade, regional Civil Protection, Naples local police, law enforcement, and the 118 Emergency Health Service. This unified command structure is monitoring the fire’s progress in real-time, coordinating all field operations, and assessing the potential need for further measures to safeguard the population. Such measures could include, if conditions necessitate, the temporary and precautionary evacuation of homes most exposed to risk.

Further Developments Expected

A subsequent meeting of the CCS has been scheduled for late this evening to provide an updated assessment of the situation and to determine the next steps in managing the incident. The authorities are committed to keeping the public informed as the situation develops.

The Pineta Camaldoli is a significant green lung for Naples, and the proximity of the fire to both residential areas and a quarry presents complex challenges for emergency responders. The activation of comprehensive coordination mechanisms underscores the seriousness of the event and the commitment to mitigating its impact.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow any instructions issued by the local authorities or emergency services.
