New Tutor Systems Launched on A7 Milan-Genoa Highway
Milan, May 30 – Six new Tutor speed camera systems became operational yesterday, Friday, May 29, along the A7 Milan-Genoa highway. These devices, installed by Milano Serravalle-Milano Tangenziali and managed by the Traffic Police, aim to enhance road safety and mitigate accidents caused by excessive speed. No casualties have been reported in connection with the activation of these systems.
Enhanced Monitoring for Safer Roads
The new systems monitor the average speed of vehicles along specific sections of the highway within the Lombardy region, spanning from south of Milan to the border with Piedmont. Three Tutor devices operate in the direction of Milan, covering approximately 29 kilometers of roadway, while the other three monitor about 22 kilometers in the direction of Genoa.
Unlike traditional speed cameras that record speed at a single point, the Tutor system electronically detects the average speed maintained by vehicles between two distinct points on the highway. This method encourages drivers to adhere to speed limits throughout the entire monitored stretch, thus promoting more cautious driving behavior and regulating traffic flow. Infractions will be verified by the Traffic Police, who will then issue corresponding fines.
International Focus on Road Safety
Road safety has garnered significant international attention in recent years. Accident reduction is a key objective of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and the European program “Vision Zero,” which aims to eliminate road fatalities and serious injuries by 2050, with an interim target of halving casualties by 2030.
Ivo Cassetta, CEO of Milano Serravalle-Milano Tangenziali, emphasized the importance of responsible driving: “The monitoring of the A7 highlights a situation that requires attention and the need to promote more responsible driving at a national level to ensure the safety of all users. We are all equally responsible when driving. The installation of Tutor devices, along with continuous infrastructure monitoring and all our safety-related projects, moves in this direction.”
Carlotta Gallo, Director of the Traffic Police Department for Lombardy, also commented on the initiative’s significance: “The installation of the new Tutor system on the A7 effectively contributes to accident prevention and the improvement of road safety on the route. The synergy between technology and territorial control is strategic for reducing accidents and progressively moving closer to the European Vision Zero objective set for 2050.”
Addressing the Causes of Accidents
According to data from the concessionaire, high speed, distraction, and failure to yield still account for approximately 38% of road accidents. Consequently, strengthening controls along one of the main routes connecting the North-West to Liguria aims to foster safer and more responsible behavior among motorists.
The activation of these new Tutor systems is a proactive step towards creating a safer driving environment on one of Italy’s crucial highways, aligning with broader national and international road safety initiatives.
