Rome, May 30 – Following their European Bronze medal triumph last year in Athens, the Italian Women’s National Basketball Team is set for another demanding summer as they embark on their journey towards the 2026 World Cup in Berlin. The team’s intensive preparation schedule is designed to ensure they arrive at the global tournament in optimal condition.
Training Camp Kicks Off in Rome
The first phase of preparation will commence with a training camp held at the Olympic Preparation Center in Acqua Acetosa, Rome, from August 4th to 12th. This initial gathering will lay the groundwork for the demanding series of international tests and friendly matches that await the squad throughout August.
High-Level International Friendlies
The road to the World Cup includes a series of high-profile international fixtures. The team’s first international stop will be in Kortrijk, Belgium, where they will face the reigning European champions in two friendly matches on August 14th and 15th. From August 16th to 20th, the team will relocate to Trento for another training camp. This will be followed by a friendly match against China at the BTS Arena on August 21st, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 PM. This game will precede the Trentino Basket Cup, which the Men’s National Team will play against Estonia on August 22nd. Additionally, a closed-door scrimmage against China is planned for the Azzurre on the afternoon of August 22nd, starting at 3:00 PM.
Final Preparations and World Cup Debut
The team will reconvene at the Olympic Preparation Center in Acqua Acetosa on August 25th before traveling to Paris for two scrimmages against France on August 27th and 28th. These matches offer another invaluable opportunity to fine-tune their preparation and compete against one of Europe’s and the world’s most formidable basketball nations.
On September 1st, the team will transfer to Germany, marking the beginning of their final week of preparations for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Berlin from September 4th to 13th. Italy will make its World Cup debut on September 4th against the Czech Republic at the Max-Schmeling-Halle, with the game tipping off at 8:15 PM.
Subsequent group stage matches will see Italy face the United States on September 6th at the Berlin Arena at 8:45 PM, followed by a clash against China on September 7th, also at the Max-Schmeling-Halle, at 8:45 PM.
