Napoli Centrale Station to Receive Over 20 Million Euro Renovation
Napoli, May 28, 2026 – Napoli Centrale train station, a vital transport hub for the city, is set to undergo a comprehensive renovation with an investment exceeding 20 million euros. The project, led by Grandi Stazioni Retail, was officially presented today at the Campania Region headquarters. It aims to transform the station into a modern and welcoming gateway for Naples and its visitors.
Project Divided into Three Key Areas
The renovation project is structured into three main areas of intervention. The first focuses on the underground connections and the Corso Lucci axis, introducing new escalators to link the underground level to the ground floor. A new horizontal corridor will also provide direct and continuous access from the station to Corso Lucci.
The second area of intervention targets the area facing the tracks. This will involve a significant modification of the glazed section between the ground floor and the mezzanine level. Internal mobility will be enhanced with a new block of escalators and a state-of-the-art elevator.
The third and most substantial part of the project involves the requalification of the internal spaces. A redistribution of the internal fronts will create a wide, double-height rectilinear corridor, featuring continuous glass windows. These will offer full bidirectional visibility of Piazza Garibaldi and seamlessly connect the station to Corso Lucci.
‘The Diamond’ and Local Involvement
At the heart of this new layout, a structure named ‘The Diamond’ will be created. This will house ticket offices on the ground floor and lounges on the upper level. The entire project has been developed in close collaboration with the Superintendency of Naples, ensuring that the historical and cultural significance of the site is respected.
All works are anticipated to be completed by 2027. Elena Sorlini, CEO of Grandi Stazioni Retail, emphasized the vision behind the project, stating, “Napoli Centrale is no longer just a place of transit; it is and must be a destination.” The renovation will also actively involve local businesses, underscoring the project’s commitment to the economic fabric of the Campania region.
Complex Work Schedule and Future Developments
Roberto Fico, President of the Campania Region, acknowledged the complexity of the project, explaining that the works will be carried out in phases. “A large part will be completed before the America’s Cup and the second after, but in any case by 2027,” he stated.
Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi hailed the renovation as “a truly important requalification intervention for the station.” He highlighted the growing number of travelers, now reaching 90 million annually. Manfredi also mentioned future plans for the city’s airport, stating, “There will also be an important intervention on the airport, because we must have access hubs to the city proportionate to a demand that is growing so much.”
The extensive renovation of Napoli Centrale station is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for millions of passengers and contribute to the modernization of Naples’ urban infrastructure, solidifying its position as a major European city.
