Bell of Solace Brings Joy and Emotion to Ospedale del Mare in Naples
Naples, June 17, 2026 – A morning of profound emotion unfolded at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples with the inauguration of the ‘Bell of Solace,’ a poignant gift from a patient who has successfully recovered from cancer. This initiative, part of a broader humanization program, seeks to create a more welcoming and serene environment for oncology patients and their families.
A Symbol of Hope and New Beginnings
The Complex Operational Unit of Oncology at the Neapolitan hospital, under the direction of Bruno Daniele, has been enhanced not only by the installation of the bell but also by the display of a selection of artworks generously donated by two young Neapolitan artists, Greta Paliotti and Rossana Diasparra. This artistic contribution, alongside the bell, aims to provide a more comforting and humanized space for patients.
The ‘Bell of Solace’ itself was donated by Cinzia, a patient who, having completed her treatment, wished to offer a symbol of hope. Patients are invited to ring this bell at the end of their treatment journey, signifying a milestone achieved, a new beginning, and a message of encouragement for those still undergoing therapy. It also serves as a heartfelt farewell to the dedicated doctors and nurses who supported them.
Art and Community Support Patient Well-being
The initiative was officially presented today, with artist Greta Paliotti in attendance, alongside the Hospital’s Health and Administrative Directors, Giuseppe Vitiello and Massimo Barresi, and the Director of the Oncology UOC, Bruno Daniele. Following the presentation, Carmine Lauretta (artistically known as Vesuviano) performed some of his original songs for the patients and their families, underscoring the vital role of art in all its forms within the healing process. Adding a touch of sweetness to the occasion, the Colmayer pastry shop generously offered their famous “via col vento” pastries to all attendees.
Dr. Bruno Daniele emphasized the significance of such moments, stating, “Moments like this strengthen the bond between the hospital, patients, and the community, reminding us that the most effective medicine arises from the encounter between professionalism and attention to the individual.”
Maria Corvino, the Company Health Director, further elaborated, “Care is not only made up of therapies and clinical skills. The works donated today, together with the installation of the Bell of Solace, represent an important message for our patients and their families: no one is alone in their treatment journey.”
