Naples Mayor Manfredi: Growth Potential Amidst Deep Inequalities

NAPLES, June 17, 2026, 19:48 – Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi emphasized yesterday the city’s extraordinary potential for growth, acknowledging at the same time the persistent fragilities linked to deep-seated inequalities inherited from the past. His remarks were made on the sidelines of the XIV Regional Congress of Uil Campania.

Addressing Historical Disparities and Youth Unemployment

“We must work on this, especially on urban regeneration and attention to young people,” stated Mayor Manfredi. He highlighted the critical need to reintegrate a significant number of young people who are currently neither studying nor working back into the productive cycle. This initiative is central to fostering social cohesion and preventing exclusion.

Ensuring Constitutional Rights and Essential Services

According to the mayor, the key to increasing social cohesion and preventing exclusion lies in guaranteeing constitutional rights through the improvement of essential services. He specifically cited healthcare and the right to housing as primary areas requiring enhancement to improve the quality of life for all citizens.

Strategic Economic Development for a Stronger Naples

Manfredi also outlined a vision for an integrated productive strategy aimed at economic development. “Industrial policy must be strengthened,” he asserted. He pointed to sectors experiencing significant growth, such as aerospace, defense, agri-food, and digital technologies. However, he also acknowledged challenges within the automotive sector, which has been experiencing difficulties.

The ultimate goal for both the city and the Campania Region, Manfredi concluded, is to ensure “a strong manufacturing sector and an industrial system that guarantees quality jobs and economic growth.” This strategic approach aims to leverage existing strengths while addressing areas of vulnerability to build a more resilient and equitable economy.

The mayor’s statements underscore a commitment to balancing economic ambition with social responsibility, striving to create a Naples where prosperity is shared more broadly among its residents.
