‘Arena’ Open-Air Cinema Festival Returns to Naples Beaches for Third Edition

Naples, June 1, 2026 – The spotlight is once again on the ‘Arena’ open-air cinema festival, now in its third edition. From June 5 to June 28, ten acclaimed films will be screened free of charge on the picturesque beaches of Naples. This initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Naples and co-financed by the Metropolitan City of Naples as part of the 2026 Metropolitan Events Calendar, builds on the remarkable success of its previous two editions in 2024 and 2025.

The screenings will take place under the stars at the Lido Mappatella on Rotonda Diaz and in Vico I Marina in San Giovanni a Teduccio. The program is curated by Nest – Napoli Est Teatro, with artistic direction from Francesco Di Leva and Adriano Pantaleo.

Engaging Introductions and Special Guests

Each screening will be preceded by insightful discussions and in-depth analyses, commencing at 8:30 PM. These sessions will feature directors, actors, and special guests, moderated by journalist and film critic Gianmaria Tammaro, offering audiences a deeper understanding and appreciation of the cinematic art.

‘The Crafts of Cinema’: A New Training Opportunity for Youth

This year, the collaboration between the Municipal Administration and Nest – Napoli Est Teatro takes a significant step forward with the introduction of ‘The Crafts of Cinema’ (‘I mestieri del cinema’). This free professional training program is designed to provide young people in the region with a privileged insight into the behind-the-scenes work of film and audiovisual production.

The initiative will be held on June 27 and 28 at the Nest – Napoli Est Teatro and will continue in September at the Casa della Cultura of the Municipality of Naples, located in Palazzo Cavalcanti. Through meetings, testimonials, and discussions with industry professionals, participants will explore various skills essential to filmmaking. Topics will include stunts and on-set safety with Marco Langellotti, directing with Edoardo De Angelis and Emanuele Palamara, screenwriting with Maurizio Braucci and Bruno Oliviero, the art of cinematic wig-making with Gaetano Panico, and lighting and image construction with Michele D’Attanasio.

This comprehensive program aims to equip aspiring filmmakers with practical knowledge and connections, fostering the next generation of talent in the local film industry. The ‘Arena’ festival not only offers cultural enrichment to the public but also invests in the future of cinema by nurturing emerging professionals.

The return of ‘Arena’ underscores Naples’ commitment to cultural vibrancy and its growing role as a hub for artistic and creative endeavors. Residents and visitors alike are invited to experience the magic of cinema in a unique open-air setting, while young enthusiasts can seize an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of film production.
