Milan Symphony Orchestra Unveils 2026/2027 Season: A Hub for European Music
Milan, May 19 – The Milan Symphony Orchestra has officially unveiled its highly anticipated 2026/2027 season, promising a vibrant program that reinforces Lombardy’s standing as a pivotal center for European classical music. The new season, the third under the musical direction of Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, features thirty symphonic productions, seven chamber music events, and a stellar lineup of international artists.
The program, presented at the Auditorium in Largo Mahler, was attended by Francesca Caruso, the Regional Councillor for Culture of Lombardy. The season emphasizes youth engagement, accessibility initiatives, and a growing presence of under-35 attendees in the concert hall, reflecting a commitment to fostering a new generation of music lovers.
Key Highlights of the 2026/2027 Season
Among the principal events are the inaugural concert at the Teatro alla Scala on September 13, the final Italian concert of conductor Marek Janowski scheduled for October 24, and the artistic residency of young pianist Alexandra Dovgan. Dovgan will be a prominent figure throughout the season, with performances on October 9 and 11, December 4 and 6, and May 21 and 23, 2027.
The 2026/2027 calendar also includes special celebrations for two significant anniversaries: the bicentennial of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death and the fiftieth anniversary of Benjamin Britten’s passing. Both composers will be honored with dedicated symphonic and chamber music programs.
Caruso: Lombardy at the Center of the European Musical Scene
Councillor Caruso praised the orchestra’s role, stating, “The Milan Symphony Orchestra confirms itself as one of Lombardy’s most authoritative cultural excellences and an increasingly central point of reference in the European musical landscape. The new season showcases an artistic proposal of the highest level, capable of uniting great international performers, attention to young talents, and an open, contemporary, and accessible vision of symphonic music.”
She further added, “Maestro Emmanuel Tjeknavorian’s work has further strengthened the identity and prestige of the Symphony, making the Milan Auditorium a symbolic place of our territory’s cultural vitality. Lombardy Region is proud to be among the founding members of an entity that embodies quality, great musical tradition, and capacity for innovation. For this reason, we continue to strongly support its growth path, accompanying its development and enhancing its cultural role at national and international levels.”
Inclusivity and Youth Engagement at the Forefront
A significant focus of the new season is inclusivity. Six concerts will be presented in an accessible format, incorporating specific tools and approaches for individuals with sensory and intellectual disabilities. This initiative is made possible through collaborations with experts and associations in the field.
The orchestra is also committed to engaging children, teenagers, and young adults. In 2026, the Milan Symphony Orchestra participated in the ‘Next – Palchi di classe’ project by Lombardy Region, including four musical performances dedicated to children and adolescents in its catalog. Additionally, special offers for under-35s and a new fidelity program called ‘Contrappunti’ have been introduced to encourage public participation and draw new generations to live music and performances.
The Milan Symphony Orchestra continues to be a beacon of cultural excellence, intertwining tradition with innovation, and ensuring that classical music remains vibrant and accessible to a diverse audience across Lombardy and beyond.
