Rome, May 14 – Ostiamare Football Club, recently promoted to Serie C, was officially recognized and celebrated by Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri at Campidoglio on Thursday morning. The mayor lauded the club’s success, stating, “Having a third team in Serie C is a source of pride.”
An Extraordinary Season for Ostiamare
The biancoviola club concluded an extraordinary season, highlighted not only by their Serie D championship victory but also by the regional title secured by their Under 15 team just the day before. This dual success underscores the club’s strong performance across different age groups.
De Rossi Ownership Praised for Social Value
During the ceremony, Mayor Gualtieri emphasized the significant sporting and, more importantly, social value of the project led by the new ownership, headed by Daniele De Rossi, which took over approximately a year and a half ago. “The team has forged a very strong relationship with the territory and its fans: from a football and sporting perspective, this fills us with pride,” the mayor declared, acknowledging the Comune’s support for the initiative. “We have always supported Daniele and his team’s commitment precisely because of its social value, which goes beyond just football.”
Gualtieri further connected Ostiamare’s success to the revitalization of Ostia, stating, “Ostia is one of Rome’s jewels, it is the Capital’s sea: for this very reason, it needs to be redeemed after years spent on the sidelines. Ostiamare embodies the message of relaunching a territory that for too long has only been described by its problems.”
A Role Model for Young People
Svetlana Celli, President of the Capitoline Assembly, also reiterated the value of the biancoviola experience, calling the team “an example of personal and collective victory.” She added, “You are a role model for our young people and for our city,” emphasizing the need to create “the right structural and regulatory conditions” to support the project’s growth.
Daniele De Rossi’s Message and Future Plans
Daniele De Rossi, the former Roma captain, participated in the event via a video message from Genoa. He thanked Mayor Gualtieri and Sports Councilor Alessandro Onorato for the recognition received at Campidoglio. “It feels like yesterday I was there to celebrate the Scudetto won by the National Juniores last season,” De Rossi remarked. He explained that after his Serie A commitments, he would soon return to Ostia to plan for the next season and closely follow the work of the young players. He also extended his thoughts to the Under 15 team, expressing hope that they “can be an example for the young people who won the Regional title yesterday.”
Stadium Issues and Future Solutions
Alessandro Onorato, the Sports Councilor, addressed one of the most pressing issues for Ostiamare’s future: the stadium. With the registration deadline set for May 29, the club must indicate the venue where they will play the upcoming Serie C championship. “These are moments of great happiness and pride for us,” Onorato stated, “but we have a duty to continue working on municipal sports facilities.”
Onorato explained that the Comune is evaluating various solutions within the X Municipality. The most appealing option is the Stella Polare stadium, which currently lacks the necessary homologation requirements. “We are willing to bear the cost of the adaptation works,” he assured, clarifying that an agreement would need to be reached with the current concessionaire, who primarily uses the facility for rugby. The Tre Fontane stadium remains another alternative. “The season will probably start away from Rome, and then the team will move to one of these two structures,” he concluded.
