Seven Arrested in Rome for ‘Maxi Robbery’ of ‘900,000 Euros’

Rome, May 5, 2026 – Police have dismantled a gang believed to be responsible for four robberies committed between 2023 and 2025 in Rome, targeting jewelry stores and post offices. The most significant of these was a heist at a jewelry store in Parioli, where ’70 luxury watches’ with a total value exceeding ‘900,000 Euros’ were stolen. Following an investigation coordinated by magistrates from the Widespread and Serious Crime Department of the Capitoline Prosecutor’s Office, seven people have been arrested: five have been imprisoned, and two are under house arrest.

Investigation Initiated by Surveillance Footage

The investigation that led to the discovery of the criminal group began with the image of one of the perpetrators. This individual, along with an accomplice, had posed as a customer interested in purchasing luxury watches at the Parioli jewelry store. They subsequently forced an employee to hand over ’70 pieces’, threatening them with two pistols. This incident was captured by the store’s video surveillance cameras.

Investigators from the Flying Squad traced the image back to a ‘sixty-two-year-old Roman man’, who had previously been incarcerated for similar offenses. Subsequent technical findings allowed for the reconstruction of the operations of a stably organized group, structured with a pyramidal arrangement and clearly defined roles.

Details of the Robberies and the Gang’s Structure

The gang is believed to have carried out four robberies in total. While the Parioli jewelry store heist was the most lucrative, the other three incidents targeted post offices, though specific details regarding the value of goods stolen from these locations were not immediately released. The police investigation highlighted a sophisticated level of organization within the group, indicating a clear hierarchy and division of labor among its members.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that the successful identification and apprehension of the suspects were largely due to the critical role of surveillance footage and meticulous detective work. The ability to link the initial image to a known offender with a history of similar crimes proved to be a pivotal breakthrough in the case.

Community Impact and Law Enforcement Response

The series of robberies had caused concern among residents and businesses in Rome, particularly in the affluent Parioli district. The swift action by the police and the prosecutor’s office in dismantling the gang is expected to reassure the public and deter similar criminal activities.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the identities of the arrested individuals or the specific charges they face, beyond their alleged involvement in the robberies. The investigation remains ongoing, with potential for further developments as authorities continue to gather evidence and process the arrested suspects.

The successful operation underscores the commitment of Roman law enforcement to combating organized crime and protecting the city’s businesses and citizens from such brazen acts of theft. The collaboration between the Flying Squad and the Public Prosecutor’s Office proved instrumental in bringing these perpetrators to justice.
