Two Arrested for Attempted Murder in Naples Mafia-Style Ambush

Naples, May 5 – Two individuals have been arrested in connection with an attempted murder that occurred on April 17 in the Marianella district of Naples. The arrests, carried out by the Carabinieri of the Naples Vomero Company’s Operational Unit on April 28, follow an extensive investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naples – D.D.A. (District Anti-Mafia Directorate). The suspects are facing charges of attempted murder and illegal possession and carrying of a common firearm in a public place, with the aggravating circumstance of mafia methods.

The victim of the attack was Vincenzo LO RUSSO, identified as the nephew of the regents of the “Lo Russo – Capitoni” clan, which operates in the northern area of Naples. The ambush took place in the “Siberia” neighborhood within the Marianella district.

Investigation Reconstructs the Attack

The investigation, led by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate and conducted by the Carabinieri, utilized technical activities and video surveillance footage to reconstruct the ambush and the events leading up to it. These efforts provided significant evidence against the current suspects as the perpetrators of the attempted murder. The motive for the attack has been identified as an old dispute between detainees in prison.

Despite the victim’s initial reluctance to cooperate, the investigation revealed disturbing details of the assault. After being greeted with a kiss by one of his attackers, the victim was then struck with a pistol butt and a helmet, subjected to slaps and kicks, and finally shot multiple times.

Third Suspect at Large

Following the initial arrests, an order for a precautionary measure was issued against the two apprehended individuals and a third member of the criminal organization, who is currently at large. The authorities are actively pursuing the third suspect.

It is important to note that the individuals subject to these measures are currently under investigation and are presumed innocent until a definitive judgment is reached.

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat organized crime in Naples and the wider Campania region. The use of mafia methods in the attempted murder underscores the pervasive influence of criminal organizations in certain areas of the city.

The investigation continues as authorities work to fully understand the dynamics of the clan and bring all responsible parties to justice. The D.D.A. remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of the community.

The arrests serve as a testament to the dedication of the Carabinieri and the District Anti-Mafia Directorate in their fight against serious crime, even in the face of challenges such as victim non-cooperation and the complexities of mafia-related cases.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and the third suspect is apprehended.
