Date of Publication: April 30, 2026

Last Updated: May 1, 2026

Applies to: All residents of Rome needing to renew or obtain an Electronic Identity Card (CIE)

If your Electronic Identity Card is expiring or you simply need to get a new one, the first weekend of May offers an extra opportunity to get it done without the usual long waits. On Saturday, May 2nd, and Sunday, May 3rd, the Open Days dedicated to the Electronic Identity Card are back, with extraordinary openings at various points across the city.

WHERE WILL THE OPEN DAYS BE HELD?

This initiative involves several former Tourist Information Points, located in:

  • Piazza delle Cinque Lune
  • Piazza Sonnino
  • Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore

In addition, the office at via Petroselli 52 will also be operational for issuing the document.

MANDATORY BOOKING: HOW TO PROCEED

Even during these special days, access to the counters will not be free: booking remains essential. Appointments will be available starting from 9:00 AM on Thursday, April 30th, and can be made until all slots are filled via the Ministry of Interior’s Agenda CIE portal.

  • A recent passport-sized photograph
  • An electronic payment card
  • Your old identity document (if you are renewing)

Having everything ready will speed up the operations and reduce waiting times, making the experience simpler and more straightforward.

WEEKEND OPENING HOURS

The counters will be open on:

  • Saturday, May 2nd: from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Sunday, May 3rd: from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
