Weekend of Tragedies: Two Fatal Road Accidents in Rome Claim Two Lives, 17-Year-Old Critically Injured
Rome, May 3 – A tragic weekend unfolded on the roads of Rome and its province, with two separate fatal road accidents claiming the lives of two men and leaving several others injured, including a 17-year-old in critical condition. The incidents, occurring within a span of less than 24 hours, have highlighted the perilous nature of the region’s roadways.
Fatal Accident on the Grande Raccordo Anulare
The latest tragedy occurred around 6:00 AM today, Sunday, May 3, on the Grande Raccordo Anulare. A 35-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to assist motorists involved in an earlier accident. According to preliminary reports, an initial vehicle overturned, leaving its occupants unharmed. Two passing cars stopped to offer help when a third vehicle collided with the 35-year-old and a fifth car that was also in transit. Three individuals from these latter two vehicles sustained injuries. The State Police are investigating the dynamics of the accident.
Tragedy in Nettuno: Father Dies in Front of Son
Just hours earlier, on Saturday afternoon, May 2, the province was rocked by another fatal collision in Nettuno. Vincenzo Zinna, 46, lost his life in a motorcycle accident while his 17-year-old son witnessed the horrific event. Zinna and his son were riding separate motorcycles – a Honda 1000 and an Aprilia 125, respectively – along Via della Campana. After passing the Piscina Cardillo roundabout, their motorcycles collided with a car that was making a turn onto Via Taormina. Zinna was pronounced dead at the scene.
Son in Critical Condition
The 17-year-old son’s condition is critical. Following the impact, his motorcycle crashed into a boundary wall, throwing him approximately 30 meters. He was rushed to the hospital with multiple fractures. Carabinieri from the Anzio company conducted investigations and impounded the vehicles involved. The inquiry focuses on the speed of the vehicles and adherence to right-of-way rules during the car’s turning maneuver.
Cyclists Also Injured in Separate Incidents
In addition to the fatal accidents, two cyclists were also involved in separate incidents in the province. In Valmontone, a man was hit by a car while cycling home and was hospitalized in serious condition. In Frascati, a 43-year-old woman was struck by a Ford Ka and sustained injuries that will require 30 days of recovery.
These incidents underscore the urgent need for increased road safety awareness and measures in the Rome region.
