Two Moroccan Nationals Escape Kidnappers in Casal de’ Pazzi, Rome
Rome, February 24 – Two young Moroccan men, aged 18 and 21, were hospitalized yesterday after a dramatic escape from a fourth-floor apartment in Via Giovanni Palombini, Casal de’ Pazzi, Rome. The men, allegedly held captive and beaten by a gang over an unpaid debt, risked their lives by climbing from one balcony to another to flee their captors. The incident was filmed by residents and subsequently posted on social media, drawing significant attention to the harrowing escape.
The two individuals sustained injuries during their perilous escape and were subsequently taken to a local hospital for medical attention. After receiving treatment, they were discharged. Carabinieri are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the event, focusing on the alleged kidnapping and assault.
Investigation Underway: Debt and Drug Links Explored
Preliminary investigations suggest that the two men were abducted by a group of individuals, reportedly Italian, who were demanding the settlement of a debt. While the exact nature of the debt remains under investigation, authorities have not ruled out a connection to drug-related activities. It is believed that the victims were lured into the building under false pretenses, after which they were forcibly detained and subjected to physical assault.
During their captivity, the men managed to find an opportunity to escape, leading to the dangerous maneuver across the fourth-floor balconies. Their desperate attempt to flee ultimately led them to another apartment within the same building. Upon arrival, the Carabinieri, who were alerted to the situation, had to call in the fire department to safely extract the two individuals from the apartment.
Community Witnesses and Police Search for Aggressors
The dramatic escape unfolded before the eyes of several residents of the Via Giovanni Palombini building, who captured the event on their mobile phones. These recordings have since been shared on social media platforms, providing valuable visual evidence for the ongoing investigation. The footage shows the two young men precariously moving between balconies, highlighting the extreme danger they faced in their bid for freedom.
Law enforcement officials are now actively searching for the aggressors involved in the kidnapping and assault. The identities of the perpetrators are yet to be confirmed, but the police are working diligently to apprehend those responsible. The incident has raised concerns within the Casal de’ Pazzi community regarding safety and criminal activity in the area.
This event follows a series of recent criminal incidents in Rome, including an attempted bank robbery in Torpignattara, a foiled bank heist by a ‘hole gang’ (banda del buco), and a Rolex robbery in Castelverde involving gunfire and injuries. These incidents underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat crime in the Italian capital.
The Carabinieri have urged anyone with information regarding the kidnapping or the identities of the aggressors to come forward and assist with the investigation. The focus remains on bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of the community.
Further updates on this case are expected as the investigation progresses.
