Naples Bank Heist Tunnel Sealed, Restoring Calm to Vomero

Naples, April 24 – The extensive tunnel excavated by the notorious ‘hole gang’ to execute the major robbery at the Crédit Agricole branch on via Medaglie d’Oro, in the heart of Naples’ Vomero district, has been successfully sealed. Starting this afternoon, a contingent of workers, technicians, and specialized vehicles has been engaged in an urgent operation to ‘entomb’ the subterranean passage.

The conduit, constructed with almost engineering precision, was utilized by the perpetrators not only to infiltrate the vault and plunder approximately one hundred safety deposit boxes but also as a secure escape route for the entire gang into the city’s sewer network, allowing them to vanish underground immediately after the audacious heist.

Disruptions and Swift Action

The commencement of the construction site inevitably led to disruptions in pedestrian and intermodal traffic in the area. To ensure maximum safety during the excavation and pouring operations, it was necessary to cordon off the entire perimeter and temporarily close access to Line 1 of the subway, located just a few meters from the credit institution.

The operations, coordinated by ABC (Acqua Bene Comune) technicians alongside specialists from three contracted companies, involved a rapid filling procedure. A truck-mounted pump was used to inject a special cementitious mixture into the subsoil, designed to quickly consolidate the cavities and ensure the immediate restoration of ground stability.

Restoring Stability and Normalcy

The intervention, with an estimated value of approximately 17,000 euros, will continue non-stop until the complete filling of the void. Barring unforeseen technical issues, the completion of the work and the definitive securing of the area are anticipated by this evening. This will restore full usability of the sidewalk, subway accesses, and the bank to the residents of the neighborhood.

The sealing of the tunnel marks a significant step in the aftermath of the robbery, providing a sense of security and normalcy to the affected community. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the ‘hole gang’ responsible for the sophisticated heist.
