Rome, Lazio, Italy – Trenitalia is set to significantly enhance its rail service between Rome and Ladispoli this weekend in anticipation of the 71st Ladispoli Artichoke Festival. The move comes after the Lazio Region requested a strengthening of public transport to manage the expected surge in visitors from the capital. Four special trains will be put into service on Sunday, April 14th, offering an additional 4,200 seats beyond the regular schedule.
Increased Capacity Following Easter Monday Issues
This reinforcement is a direct response to the transport difficulties experienced on Easter Monday along the northern Tyrrhenian line. On that occasion, trains between Rome and coastal towns like Ladispoli, Santa Marinella, and Civitavecchia were severely overcrowded, causing considerable discomfort, particularly for elderly passengers who were left without seating.
Fabrizio Ghera, the Regional Councillor for Transport, emphasized the importance of the festival. “The Ladispoli Artichoke Festival is an event of great significance for our Region, widely known and appreciated throughout Italy,” Ghera stated. “For this reason, we have asked Trenitalia to strengthen the rail transport service to allow the many visitors to reach the city and fully enjoy this day.” He further stressed the necessity of adapting the service to meet demand.
Special Train Schedule for Sunday, April 14th
The special connections on Sunday will primarily boost services between Rome Ostiense station and Ladispoli. The schedule includes:
- A train departing from Ladispoli at 4:30 PM, arriving at Rome Ostiense at 5:20 PM.
- A train from Rome Ostiense at 5:50 PM, arriving in Ladispoli at 6:28 PM.
- A subsequent connection departing from Ladispoli at 6:45 PM, reaching Rome Ostiense at 7:25 PM.
- Finally, a train from Rome Ostiense at 7:50 PM, bound for Civitavecchia, with an estimated arrival at 9:00 PM.
Festival Highlights: Gastronomy, Culture, and Entertainment
The 71st edition of the Ladispoli Artichoke Festival remains one of the most popular events on the Lazio coastline. Running for three days, the festival will transform the center of Ladispoli with gastronomic stands, exhibition spaces, and a variety of cultural initiatives. Traffic restrictions will be in place from the early hours of April 12th.
The program features the opening of exhibition areas and the “Piazza dei Sapori d’Italia” (Square of Italian Flavors), dedicated to typical regional products, alongside local craft and art exhibitions. Throughout the festival, there will be performances by local associations, concerts, and institutional events, including the official inauguration scheduled for Saturday, April 13th.
Key attractions include a concert by singer Bianca Atzei and, on the concluding day, the traditional artichoke sculptures crafted by local producers. The festival will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display on the seafront.
