Train from Rome to Genoa blocked for hours due to power line fault

Livorno, May 25, 2026 – Train chaos erupted on Monday evening, May 25, when the Freccia Bianca 8626 train, which departed from Rome, was stranded for hours in Campiglia Marittima, in the province of Livorno. The disruption was caused by a technical fault on the electrical line at Bolgheri, leading to the suspension of circulation.

Freccia Bianca 8626 Halted at Campiglia Marittima

The Freccia Bianca 8626, which left Rome Termini punctually at 16:57, came to a standstill at Campiglia Marittima at 19:44. According to information from Trenitalia, and corroborated by their website, the cause of the prolonged stop was attributed to checks on the electrical line at Bolgheri. Passengers reported that it seemed the entire Tyrrhenian line was blocked, with no clear explanation provided initially.

Passenger Assistance and Ongoing Disruption

During the extended wait, Trenitalia provided passengers with food and water to ensure their comfort. As of 21:30, the circulation remained suspended, indicating a significant and prolonged interruption to services.

The incident affected several high-speed and Intercity trains, including:

  • FB 8626 Rome Termini (16:57) – Genoa Piazza Principe (22:03)
  • FR 8630 Rome Termini (18:27) – Genoa Piazza Principe (23:25)
  • IC 518 Rome Termini (15:57) – Ventimiglia (23:39)

Additionally, the Intercity train IC 673 from Milan Centrale (16:05) to Livorno Centrale (20:35) had its journey terminated at Viareggio. Passengers bound for Pisa and Livorno were subsequently directed to board regional train R 19379 from La Spezia Centrale (20:11) to Pisa Centrale (21:27).

Further updates on the restoration of full service are expected as Trenitalia continues to address the technical issues on the electrical line.
