Torrent Overflows in Bel Poggio, Hail in Colle Salario and Fidene Amidst Rome Storm

Rome, February 7, 2026 – Heavy rainfall and hail impacted Rome on Friday, with a torrent overflowing in the Bel Poggio area of the III Municipality and hail reported in Colle Salario and Fidene. A weather alert has been issued for the city and the Lazio region, remaining in effect until Saturday morning.

Afternoon Rains and Morning Hail

The weather alert, in place since Thursday evening, predicted the most significant meteorological events for Friday afternoon. True to forecast, intense thunderstorms, complete with thunder and lightning, began to sweep across Rome from 3:30 PM.

Earlier in the morning, hailstones, some of considerable size, fell in the Colle Salario and Fidene areas. Social media platforms were inundated with reports and images of streets and sidewalks covered in white, resembling a winter landscape.

Torrent Overflows, Isolating Bel Poggio

The situation escalated in Via Lello Maddaleno, also in the III Municipality, where a local torrent overflowed. “This is the third time in a month,” stated a local resident, highlighting a recurring problem. Local Police agents from the Nomentano group and Civil Protection personnel were dispatched to the scene.

The overflowing torrent has once again rendered the small bridge impassable, which serves as the sole connection for the Bel Poggio residential complex to the outside world. This effectively isolates the area, preventing both entry and exit, a problem documented in a previous report. The only alternative route, Via Monte di Casa, is a winding country road that, after running alongside the railway, emerges in Settebagni. However, this route is often challenging, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Access Challenges and Resident Frustration

Residents reported significant difficulties with access. “The road is blocked by the State Railways,” explained one local. “The only exit is a private road to the quarry, which unfortunately remained closed for a long time.” Another citizen added, “It’s opened for emergencies, but today around 1 PM it was closed. At least thirty cars were stuck, then it was opened. But today, the path is full of mud, imagine how it will be tonight.”

The recurring nature of these events has caused considerable frustration among the residents of Bel Poggio, particularly those living in villas and associated with sports clubs in the area, who find themselves repeatedly held hostage by the mud and impassable roads.

Ongoing Weather Alert and Future Outlook

The Civil Protection agency’s weather alert underscores the continued risk of adverse weather conditions. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and advising residents to exercise caution. The repeated incidents of flooding and isolation in Bel Poggio highlight a need for more permanent solutions to address the vulnerability of the area’s infrastructure to heavy rainfall.

The impact of the storm extends beyond Bel Poggio, with the hail in Colle Salario and Fidene indicating widespread weather activity. As the weather alert remains active, residents across Rome are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

The city’s public transport, including the metro lines A, B, B1, and C, continues to operate, but commuters are advised to check for potential disruptions due to weather conditions.
