Three-Year Redevelopment Project for East Naples Unveiled, Focusing on Green Areas and Community Engagement

Naples, April 23, 2026 – A comprehensive three-year redevelopment project for East Naples was officially presented at Piazza Capri, in the San Giovanni a Teduccio district. The initiative targets the requalification and care of approximately 5,000 square meters of green areas across Piazza Capri, Piazza Ischia, and Piazza Procida, located within the Rione Villa.

The program is a collaborative effort promoted by Est(ra)Moenia, 100×100 Naples, and Nest – Napoli Est Teatro, in conjunction with the Municipality of Naples. Following an initial phase of cleaning and maintenance activities already commenced in recent months, the upcoming stages will involve the restoration of existing seating, the strengthening of plant species, and the installation of a new children’s playground area.

Public Participation and Institutional Support

The public presentation event saw the active participation of citizens, families, institutions, and local organizations. Students from the Scialoja Cortese-Rodinò Institute and the Vittorino da Feltre Sarria Monti Comprehensive Institute played a significant role, contributing musical performances and other artistic expressions. Additionally, they engaged in a social gardening workshop titled “Mani nella terra” (Hands in the Earth), guided by gardeners from 100×100 Naples.

Notable attendees included Ambrogio Prezioso, President of Est(ra)Moenia; Ettore Morra, Administrator of 100×100 Naples; Laura Lieto, Deputy Mayor of Naples; Vincenzo Santagada, Municipal Councillor for Green Areas; and actor Francesco Di Leva.

Ambrogio Prezioso emphasized the long-term commitment of the project, stating, “This intervention will engage us for three years. Recovering plants, securing them, and restoring decorum to these places is a small sign, but many small signs put together can produce profound change.”

Enhancing Liveability and Safety Through Urban Regeneration

The primary objective of the intervention is to restore liveability and enhance safety in three strategic green areas of the district. This effort is designed to strengthen direct community involvement in a broader urban regeneration process for East Naples. The project also connects with a fundraising campaign aimed at the reopening of the Supercinema Teatro SuperNest, which has been closed for 44 years.

The initiative underscores a commitment to improving public spaces and fostering a sense of community ownership, contributing to a more vibrant and secure environment for residents. By integrating environmental improvements with social engagement, the project seeks to create lasting positive impacts on the quality of life in East Naples.
