Rome, January 17, 2026 – Three of Rome’s most exclusive nightclubs have been seized by State Police following a raid that revealed serious safety hazards for patrons. The establishments, operating under a single license for administration and dance entertainment, were found to have widespread irregularities and severe deficiencies in fire safety.
Police Uncover Extensive Safety Breaches
The inspections, conducted by agents of the Administrative Division of the Police Headquarters, began in the basement ballroom. Officers discovered unauthorized installations, including acoustic speakers and lighting systems hanging from the ceiling, which were entirely non-compliant with safety regulations. Furthermore, tables and sofas were arranged in a manner inconsistent with authorized plans, and a designated ‘calm space’ for emergencies was inaccessible, having been locked and converted into a storage room. Two mandatory fire extinguishers were also missing.
The situation on the first floor was equally concerning. The emergency evacuation area was obstructed by plant motors, smoke detectors were undersized, and the single required fire extinguisher was absent. Across all levels of the building, significant discrepancies were found between authorized documentation and the actual state of the premises. Environments had been remodeled to increase capacity and scenic impact, sacrificing prescribed rules and minimum safety standards.
Blocked Emergency Exits Posed Grave Danger
The most alarming safety issue was identified on the ground floor, where the exits from the other two levels converged, effectively transforming the evacuation route into an obstacle course. One emergency door was covered by heavy drapery and blocked with an iron bar, another was obstructed by a massive decorative element, and a third was partially covered by a refrigerator and lacked an anti-panic handle.
These severe conditions led to fines totaling thousands of euros for the owner and the immediate seizure of all three venues. The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Rome requested and obtained validation of the seizure from the Preliminary Investigation Judge.
Ongoing Crackdown on Roman Nightlife
This operation is part of a continuing crackdown by the State Police on Rome’s nightlife. In recent days, targeted controls have been carried out in various districts of the capital and will continue regularly in synergy with other police forces. The aim is to ensure the safety of patrons and enforce compliance with regulations in entertainment venues.
The authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to safety standards to prevent potential tragedies. The police action serves as a strong warning to other establishments that may be operating with similar safety shortcomings.
Local authorities are expected to continue monitoring nightclubs and other public venues to safeguard public safety and ensure that all necessary precautions are in place to handle emergencies effectively. The seized clubs will remain closed until all safety violations are rectified and they meet the required legal standards.
