Strong Winds Cause Damage Across Rome and Province
Rome, Lazio, Italy – April 2, 2026 – A yellow alert for strong winds remains in effect for Rome today, April 2, 2026, following a day of significant weather-related incidents on Tuesday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite several interventions by emergency services.
Cornice Falls in Prati, Narrowly Misses Passersby
An alarming incident occurred around 7:30 PM on Tuesday in the Prati district, where a cornice detached from a private building at 116/118 Piazza Cola di Rienzo. The falling debris narrowly missed pedestrians and tourists. Local police from the I Prati group and firefighters quickly responded, cordoning off the area from civics 118 to 122. While no one was injured, the incident caused considerable apprehension.
Large Tree Collapses in Portuense
The wind also caused problems in the Portuense area, where a large tree snapped and fell, completely blocking Via Sirtori. Fortunately, no injuries were reported here either, and local police closed the road to ensure public safety while the tree was being cleared. Marco Palma, a councilor for the Arvalia municipality, highlighted concerns about tree maintenance, stating, “Pruning interventions had recently been carried out in the nearby Piazza Lorenzini. In the city, there is always the operation of truth of time to testify to the absence of the Ama method.”
Civitavecchia Experiences Numerous Wind-Related Emergencies
The impact of the strong winds extended beyond Rome to its province, particularly in Civitavecchia. Firefighters there responded to numerous calls for assistance, securing dangerous trees, signs, and plaster that threatened to detach due to the strong gusts. Among the many interventions was one at the municipal swimming pool in Santa Marinella. The 17A crew, using an aerial ladder, removed portions of the metal sheets that formed the roof of the structure. No injuries were reported in Civitavecchia.
Fiumicino Closes Cemeteries and Parks as Precaution
In another precautionary measure within the province of Rome, the mayor of Fiumicino, Mario Baccini, signed an ordinance on Tuesday. This order mandates the immediate closure of the cemeteries of Porto, Santa Ninfa, and Palidoro, as well as the Monumental Pine Forest of Fregene (sectors A, B, and C), Villa Guglielmi Park, and Bozzetto Park located at Via dell’Ippocampo n. 30. Access, transit, and permanence in these areas are prohibited until April 2, 2026, or until further notice, to prevent risks to public safety.
Weather Forecast: Strong Winds to Continue
The yellow alert for wind is expected to continue throughout today, Wednesday, April 2, 2026. According to 3Bmeteo, Rome will experience partly cloudy skies with some increased cloudiness in the afternoon, but no rain is expected. The maximum temperature is forecast to be 16°C, with a minimum of 9°C. Winds will be strong from the north in the morning and strong from the north-northeast in the afternoon.
