However, these repairs are expected to take several more hours.

Mayor Segala highlighted the severe consequences for local businesses: “Without electricity, supermarkets and dozens of commercial establishments in the area have also been affected, and they will have to discard refrigerated food that has been without power for hours.” Furthermore, residents in buildings equipped with electric-powered water pumps (autoclaves) are now facing water shortages, adding another layer of difficulty to an already challenging situation.
Duereti Attributes Outage to Record Consumption Surge
Duereti issued a statement late Sunday afternoon, shedding light on the circumstances leading to the widespread outages. The company explained that “following the high temperatures recorded in recent days in the Milan metropolitan area – approximately 35 degrees Celsius – the maximum annual load on the electricity distribution networks managed by Duereti was registered, with a sudden 38% increase in consumption compared to last week.”
While Duereti typically resolves service interruptions quickly through its remote control system and on-site teams, the company noted that in cases of multiple faults, such as those experienced in San Giuliano Milanese, restoration times can be extended. “In such situations, to proceed with reactivation operations, it is necessary to send specialized technicians to the site to locate the points of intervention and to carry out excavation activities to uncover the section of the network to be repaired,” Duereti stated. The presence of parked cars, even on sidewalks, often necessitates the use of tow trucks to clear the area for repair work, further complicating and delaying efforts.
Duereti confirmed that its teams have been on site since Sunday night in San Giuliano Milanese, have identified the faults, and are actively engaged in repair work. The company anticipates that all affected users will have their power restored around 12:15 PM on Monday.
