Rome, June 9 – The IX Municipality has announced a significant boost to its security measures with an additional €600,000 allocated for the installation of new video surveillance cameras. This funding, confirmed by Vice President Augusto Gregorio, will be directed towards enhancing security in critical areas across Southern Rome.
Expanded Surveillance for Enhanced Security
The new resources will allow the municipality to further extend its existing camera installation plan, which already covers a wide range of neighborhoods from Eur to Trigoria, including Fonte Meravigliosa, Spinaceto, Fonte Ostiense, and Vallerano.
Vice President Gregorio highlighted the importance of these new funds, stating, “This additional funding will serve to further strengthen the territory’s control system and complete a path initiated in recent years, in which security, decorum, and urban quality have been considered central elements of citizens’ quality of life.”
Response to Vandalism and Continued Commitment to Safety
The decision to augment the surveillance network comes in the wake of recent acts of vandalism targeting existing cameras in areas like Mostacciano, Spinaceto, and Vallerano. These incidents involved damage, including red paint being thrown on the installations to render them unusable.
Despite these challenges, the municipality remains resolute in its efforts to ensure public safety. Gregorio commented on the recent acts, saying, “What has happened recently, the damage to the cameras that we promptly restored to their functions, means we are on the right track.”
