Since the beginning of 2025, crack cocaine has become the most widely sold drug around Rome’s Termini Station. This highly addictive mix, primarily based on cocaine crystals that can be snorted or smoked, has moved from areas like Quarticciolo and Tor Bella Monaca to Termini, as confirmed by recent police and Carabinieri investigations.
Daily Arrests and Extensive Police Operations
This drug phenomenon is part of a broader crime issue in the area. In 2025 alone, over 600 individuals were arrested by police and Carabinieri, with an additional 537 arrests made by the railway police (Polfer), totaling over a thousand arrests – an average of three per day. More than six hundred people have also been reported for various crimes.
Carabinieri alone identified approximately 30,000 people during the same period, 85% of whom were foreign nationals. This is out of more than 80,000 individuals stopped and checked last year in the reinforced security zone established by the Prefecture around Termini and the Esquilino area.
Urban Daspo Orders and Business Irregularities
In 2025, over 300 removal orders (urban Daspo) were issued in this area, two-thirds of which targeted foreign nationals. Approximately one-third of these were for theft, over 60 for drug dealing, and others for crimes against individuals. Forty-one arrests were made in the “red zone,” with 142 people reported.
Checks were carried out on 614 public establishments, with about half being sanctioned due to various irregularities. More than a hundred additional violations were found by the Questura during inspections of various commercial activities, including accommodation facilities and gaming halls.
The provincial Carabinieri command also proposed and obtained over 40 urban Daspo orders against individuals caught in the Termini and Esquilino areas during patrolling services aimed at controlling the territory around the station and Piazza Vittorio. The removal orders issued based on information gathered by the Carabinieri totaled 392, with 337 targeting foreign nationals.
Focus on Piazza dei Cinquecento and Multi-Agency Efforts
Data from the Carabinieri indicates that 65% of arrests and 45% of reports were made during clean-up operations in the Piazza dei Cinquecento area. Patrols from the Guardia di Finanza and municipal police have also been actively involved, conducting anti-drug operations that have resulted in the seizure of several kilograms of narcotics and the apprehension of armed and dangerous individuals.
The presence of Army personnel, who also participate in joint patrols with law enforcement, has recently been enhanced with the deployment of two unarmed armored vehicles, serving as a deterrent, in front of the railway station entrance and at the intersection with Via Giolitti.
New Polmetro Office at Termini
Further strengthening law enforcement efforts is the establishment of a dedicated Polmetro office, inaugurated just days ago at Termini, at the entrance of Metro A. This unit was already active last year, identifying over 36,700 people, making 78 arrests, and issuing 195 reports. The “underground” agents are expected to see an increase in staff from fifty to eighty units.
