Rome Taxi Driver Arrested with 10 kg of Hashish and Rolex
Rieti, March 24, 2026 – A taxi driver has been arrested after being found in possession of approximately 10 kg of hashish, concealed within the rear doors of his vehicle. The operation, conducted by officers from the Rome North Traffic Police, took place at the Flaminia Ovest service area on the A1 motorway. The individual has been transferred to the Nuovo Complesso Prison in Rieti, while the narcotics and other items have been seized.
Motorway Check Leads to Discovery
According to information released on the State Police website, traffic police officers from Rome North recently observed a taxi stopped at the Flaminia Ovest service area on the A1 motorway. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, a circumstance that raised the officers’ suspicions and prompted them to conduct a thorough check.
Suspicious Behavior Triggers Deeper Investigation
During the initial checks, the taxi driver exhibited signs of nervousness and provided evasive answers regarding his presence on the motorway. This behavior further heightened the officers’ suspicions, leading them to conduct more detailed inspections of both the individual and the vehicle.
Hashish Found in Car Doors
During the inspection of the car, police noticed that the rear door panels were not properly positioned, suggesting they had been tampered with. Following this observation, officers discovered several packages containing hashish inside the compartments of the rear doors, totaling approximately 10 kg. The substance was packaged in bricks, jars, and cellophane spheres. In addition to the drugs, a package of electronic cigarettes was also found.
Home Search Reveals Valuable Watch and Smartphones
The investigation continued with a home search at the taxi driver’s residence. During this search, officers found a valuable Rolex watch, complete with a guarantee certificate, the possession of which the man could not justify. Furthermore, four smartphones found in his possession were also seized.
Arrest and Legal Consequences
The taxi driver was arrested and, at the discretion of the Judicial Authority, taken to the Nuovo Complesso Prison in Rieti. The narcotics, the watch, and the smartphones have been impounded as evidence.
