Rome Security Guard Arrested for Attempted Murder After Beating Suspected Shoplifter
Rome, January 11th – A security guard in Rome has been arrested on charges of attempted murder after a violent altercation with a man he allegedly caught shoplifting. The incident, which took place on Saturday, January 10th, reportedly began over a bottle of beer and escalated into a brutal confrontation that left the suspected thief in critical condition.
First Altercation at a Rome Supermarket
The events unfolded around 6:00 PM on Saturday, January 10th, at a Conad supermarket in Casal Bruciato, Piazza Balsamo Crivelli. According to Il Messaggero, a 44-year-old man entered the supermarket and took a bottle of beer. He then proceeded to the checkout, stating he would pay for it the following day. It was at this point that the security guard intervened.
An initial verbal dispute reportedly ensued between the security guard and the 44-year-old, after which the customer managed to leave the store and return to his home, which, according to Roma Today, is located directly opposite the supermarket. However, his stay at home was brief, as he soon re-emerged, this time allegedly armed with a knife.
Violent Confrontation Between Guard and Suspect
Witnesses reported seeing the man approach the security guard with the knife pointed at him. A violent struggle then erupted between the two, during which the security guard successfully disarmed the 44-year-old. However, instead of restraining him and contacting law enforcement, the security guard allegedly attacked the man with kicks and punches, continuing despite the man’s screams.
The victim was subsequently transported to Umberto I Polyclinic, where he remains in extremely serious condition.
