Rome Metro B Line Partially Closed This Weekend for Essential Maintenance

Rome, January 30 – Rome’s Metro B and B1 lines will undergo partial closures this weekend, from Friday, January 30, at 9:00 PM until Sunday, February 1, at 5:30 AM. This interruption is necessary to facilitate critical track maintenance work.

Affected Sections and Alternative Transport

The train service on Metro B and B1 lines will be suspended between the San Paolo and Rebibbia/Ionio stations (and vice versa) for the duration of the weekend. To mitigate inconvenience for commuters, Atac, Rome’s public transport company, will provide two replacement bus lines:

  • MB7: Covering the route from San Paolo to Rebibbia.
  • MB1: Operating between Piazza Bologna and Viale Ionio.

Passengers traveling on the B1 line will need to transfer at Piazza Bologna to continue their journey by bus.

On January 30, the last metro trains will depart at 9:00 PM in both directions. Following this, the metro service will be limited to the San Paolo-Laurentina section, with bus replacements covering the San Paolo-Rebibbia and Bologna-Ionio routes until the early morning of February 1, when regular service is expected to resume.

Ticket Offices and Parking Facilities

During this maintenance period, specifically on January 31 and February 1, the ticket offices at Conca d’Oro, Termini, and Piramide stations will be closed. Interchange parking facilities along the Metro B line will maintain their usual operating hours:

  • January 30 and 31: 5:15 AM to 2:15 AM
  • February 1: 5:15 AM to 12:15 AM

Challenges for Fiumicino Airport Access

Reaching Fiumicino Airport by public transport this weekend will present significant challenges. In addition to the metro closure, railway circulation between Tiburtina and Ostiense stations is also interrupted due to ongoing work for the Pigneto hub. Normally, travelers could take Metro B from Tiburtina to Piramide and then proceed to Ostiense station for a connecting train to the airport. However, this route will not be feasible due to the Metro B closure between San Paolo and Rebibbia.

Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative transport options to and from Fiumicino Airport.
