Rome Capital Integrates AI Virtual Assistant ‘Julia 2.5’ into Official Portal
Rome, June 8, 2026 – Rome Capital has taken a significant step in its digital innovation journey by integrating ‘Julia 2.5’, an advanced AI-powered virtual assistant, into its official institutional portal. The new version of Julia, unveiled at the Campidoglio, is designed to streamline access to a vast array of information, documents, and online services for residents, regular city users, and tourists alike.
The institutional portal, which serves as the primary digital gateway to the city’s services, records approximately 18 million annual accesses and hosts over 160,000 informational contents and around 90 online services. The introduction of Julia 2.5 is set to enhance user experience by providing immediate and intuitive assistance.

Mayor Roberto Gualtieri emphasized that Julia’s integration into the portal marks a crucial advancement in the administration’s digital transformation efforts. “With Julia on the institutional portal, we are taking a new step to make Rome Capital more digital, simpler, and closer to people,” stated the Mayor. He added, “Rome is positioning itself among the most advanced experiences in Europe in the use of generative artificial intelligence as a public service, linked to official sources and designed to simplify access to information.”
Gualtieri highlighted that the new tool will enable users to navigate the extensive information resources of the Municipality more easily, reducing the steps required to find documents, information, and services.
How Julia 2.5 Works
Developed through a collaborative effort between Rome Capital and leading technology companies including Microsoft, Intellera, NTT Data, Fastweb, 01 Sistemi, and BIP, Julia 2.5 allows users to pose questions in natural language and receive instant responses. The virtual assistant provides directional guidance, direct links to requested content, related documents, and connections to official administration sources. The system is accessible via a persistent widget throughout website navigation and maintains conversation context even when users browse different pages.
Julia Does Not Replace Municipal Offices
The Campidoglio clarified that Julia is not intended to replace the work of municipal offices or administrative procedures. The virtual assistant’s sole function is to provide guidance and support in consulting online information. Administrative responsibility and case management remain with the competent offices, with Julia acting as a conversational guide to facilitate access to public services.
A Project in Continuous Evolution
Its deployment on the institutional portal represents a new milestone in the virtual assistant’s development. Following its initial version focused on city experience and the subsequent Julia 2.0 update, which featured a more advanced multi-agent architecture, version 2.5 introduces a specialized agent for managing municipal portal content. Concurrently, Rome Capital is working to improve the quality and organization of information on the website, aiming to make content retrieval by the assistant even more efficient.
Upcoming App and Conversational Services
The project is slated for further development in the coming months. The roadmap includes the launch of a dedicated app, the progressive introduction of online services accessible in conversational or assisted modes, and the extension of the assistant to the portals of the Municipality’s affiliated companies. The stated objective is to gradually transform Julia from a mere informational tool into a platform capable of directly supporting access to digital services within an increasingly integrated and multi-channel ecosystem.
