Rome, June 17 – Municipal police have closed down the “Garden Club” disco located in Via delle Capannelle, Rome, and preventively seized its premises. The action was taken after officers discovered approximately 1,200 patrons dancing inside a facility operating without the required public entertainment authorizations. The preventive seizure was subsequently validated by the preliminary investigation judge (GIP).

Operations Without Legal Authorization

According to the municipal police, the venue was operating illegally. At the time of the police’s arrival, a large crowd of attendees was gathered around the swimming pool without any protective barriers or safety signage. This presented “evident risk profiles for the safety of the patrons.”

“The checks carried out by the officers revealed the total absence of the authorizations required by current legislation on public entertainment, including the license for carrying out the activity, the certificate of usability, and the documentation relating to acoustic impact,” explained the agents involved in the operation.

Manager Denounced, Fines Issued

The 26-year-old Roman manager responsible for organizing the party and managing the venue has been reported by the Municipal Police. In addition to the legal charges, he was also issued a fine of 5,000 euros for the unauthorized sale of food and beverages. The disco’s equipment was also seized as part of the operation. Police ensured the safe dispersal of the numerous customers.

Broader Context of Regulatory Enforcement

This incident is part of ongoing efforts by Roman authorities to ensure that public venues comply with safety regulations and licensing requirements. The closure of the “Garden Club” highlights the strict stance taken against establishments that prioritize profit over public safety and legal compliance. Such operations are crucial for maintaining order and protecting citizens in crowded public spaces, especially during large gatherings.

The lack of proper safety measures, such as barriers around the pool and adequate signage, underscores the potential dangers patrons faced. The absence of an acoustic impact certificate also suggests a disregard for local noise pollution regulations, which are designed to protect the quality of life for nearby residents.

Implications for Public Entertainment Venues in Rome

The swift action taken by the municipal police serves as a warning to other establishments in Rome that may be operating without full compliance. It reinforces the message that authorities are vigilant and will enforce regulations to prevent potential hazards. Venue owners and event organizers are expected to adhere to all legal requirements, including obtaining necessary licenses and ensuring the safety of their patrons, to avoid similar repercussions.

The incident also brings to light the importance of public awareness regarding the safety and legality of entertainment venues. Patrons attending events should be confident that the places they visit meet all safety standards and are operating within the bounds of the law. This case may prompt increased scrutiny of event permits and safety protocols across Rome’s vibrant nightlife scene.

The legal proceedings against the 26-year-old manager will continue, and the seized equipment will remain under judicial custody pending further decisions. The fine for unauthorized food and beverage sales further emphasizes the comprehensive nature of the violations found at the “Garden Club.”

The city of Rome continues to monitor and regulate public gatherings to ensure the well-being of its residents and visitors, making sure that entertainment can be enjoyed safely and legally.
