Milan, April 11, 2026 – The Municipality of Milan has successfully secured a significant 242,000 euro grant from the Italian government, earmarked for the new 0-6 years children’s hub. This funding, obtained through a competitive tender, will be dedicated to furnishing the recently renovated Sempione school and La Nave nursery, which merged to form the innovative educational center.

Innovative Furnishings for Advanced Pedagogy

The grant will enable the acquisition of innovative and experimental educational furnishings, designed to support a forward-thinking and laboratory-based teaching approach. These specialized furnishings are tailored for the 0-6 age group, fostering an environment conducive to early childhood development.

Mayor Giacomo Ghilardi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Winning this tender allows us to receive resources to provide educational furnishings designed to develop innovative and laboratory-based teaching through the creation of targeted educational spaces for the 0-6 age group. Our Sempione Children’s Hub aims to be a flagship of our city, and this funding will make an already avant-garde structure even more efficient and comfortable.”

A State-of-the-Art Facility

The works for the Sempione Children’s Hub concluded at the end of 2025, and the facility has already received a visit from the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, highlighting its significance and advanced design. The funds will specifically be used to furnish the newly constructed section of the hub and to undertake a comprehensive restyling of the existing furniture in the current nursery school.

The project was realized with the support of 1.4 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with a strong emphasis on sustainability, energy efficiency, and outdoor education. This holistic approach ensures that the hub not only provides a high-quality learning environment but also adheres to modern ecological standards.

Collaborative Educational Development

Maria Gabriella Fumagalli, Councillor for Education and Childhood, emphasized the collaborative efforts behind the initiative. “With this result, we are taking another step forward. The Municipality, the nursery, and the school are already working together to define pedagogical guidelines and build spaces designed to welcome children with a functional and modern educational path. This funding further strengthens the possibility of focusing on advanced teaching,” she announced.

The integration of the Sempione school and La Nave nursery into a unified 0-6 children’s hub represents a progressive step in early childhood education in Milan. The focus on innovative teaching methods, coupled with a comfortable and stimulating environment, is expected to significantly benefit the city’s youngest residents.

Impact on the Community

The establishment of such a comprehensive children’s hub, supported by national funding, underscores the Italian government’s commitment to investing in early childhood development. It also reflects Milan’s dedication to providing cutting-edge educational facilities for its citizens.

This initiative follows previous efforts in the region, as highlighted by related articles such as “Cinisello, the first 0-6 Hub is born. A bridge from nursery to kindergarten,” “From the Council 500 thousand euros to the children’s hub,” and “In Novate, the Children’s Hub. Over 10 million for schools.” These preceding projects demonstrate a broader trend towards consolidating and enhancing early childhood education infrastructure across the region.

The new furnishings are anticipated to be in place soon, further enhancing the learning experience for the children attending the Sempione Children’s Hub. The project stands as a testament to effective collaboration between local and national authorities in advancing educational standards.
