Roma Tre University Approves New Code Against Harassment and Discrimination
Rome, January 29, 2026 – Roma Tre University has taken a significant step forward in safeguarding its community with the approval of a new Code of Conduct for the prevention and combating of harassment, sexual harassment, and all forms of discrimination. The collegiate bodies of the university formally endorsed the document on January 28, 2026, solidifying the institution’s commitment to fostering an environment built on dignity, safety, and inclusion.
A Clear Message from the University
The approval of this Code explicitly states Roma Tre’s firm stance against any form of harassment, violence, or discrimination. Rector Massimiliano Fiorucci emphasized that the measure is not merely a set of rules but a collective assumption of responsibility. The primary objective is to assure every member of the university community that they can rely on the institution, that they will not be left alone, and that they will find support, protection, and respect in times of difficulty.
Direct Communication with Victims
The Code begins with a clear message addressed to those who have experienced or are currently experiencing situations of discomfort or violence. It reiterates that responsibility never lies with the victim and that such experiences should not be faced in isolation. In this sense, the Code serves not only as a regulation but also as a concrete commitment by the University to be present and supportive of those affected.
Objectives and Scope of Application
The document outlines precise objectives, including the prevention and combating of all forms of discrimination, harassment, and violence related to gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, abilities, national or cultural origin, language, religion, and personal, economic, and social conditions, including all manifestations of racism. The Code also aims to protect victims by offering them support, trust, and guidance, to promote relationships based on respect for differences, and to empower the entire university community.
Regulatory Coherence and Guarantees
The Code of Conduct aligns with national legislation, the University’s Statute, regulations, and Ethical Code, as well as international agreements and European Union directives. It applies to all components of the university community and clarifies what constitutes harassment and discrimination, the protective measures available to victims, the sanctions for perpetrators, and the guarantees of confidentiality.
A Path Forged Over Time
The approval of the Code is the culmination of a university policy developed over years through concrete actions, cultural initiatives, support services, and dedicated training programs. Roma Tre has promoted events for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and participated in the national traveling campaign “Like a Wave, Against Violence Against Women,” promoted by Rai Radio1 and Giornale Radio Rai.
Symbolic Initiatives and Support Services
Among the initiatives implemented by the University is a mural by artist Luis Gomez de Teran, dedicated to gender equality and female empowerment, created in memory of student Sara Di Pietrantonio and inaugurated on October 11, 2024, at the School of Economics and Business Studies. This is complemented by the opening of the “Sara Di Pietrantonio” Anti-Violence Center, the presence of the University’s Confidential Counselor, and the activities of the Single Guarantee Committee, now supported by a new website dedicated to equal opportunities and workplace well-being.
Training and Inclusion Policies
In terms of training, Roma Tre offers specific courses and programs, including a High-Level Course in the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Gender-Based Violence, a First-Level Master’s in Gender Studies and Policies, and a Legal Clinic on Combating Gender-Based Violence and Multiple Discriminations. The University also hosts the activities of LeGender, an Interdisciplinary Legal Studies Center on Gender, active within the Department of Law.
Concrete Commitments and Additional Measures
The framework is further completed by a series of measures adopted in recent years, such as the signing of the “No Women No Panel” Memorandum of Understanding, the introduction of the Alias Career Regulation, and total exemption from university fees for individuals leaving situations of gender-based violence and for the children of femicide victims.
Another Step Towards a Safer University
With the approval of the Code of Conduct, Roma Tre further strengthens its commitment to making the University a space for study and work based on respect, shared responsibility, and the concrete protection of individuals, consolidating a path towards a more aware and inclusive academic community.
