Progetto Arca Inaugurates 25 Social Housing Apartments in Baggio, Milan
Milan, March 23 – Progetto Arca, a non-profit foundation, today officially inaugurated Casa Seneca, a new social housing complex featuring 25 apartments in the Baggio district of Milan. This initiative, representing a total investment of 2.5 million euros, aims to provide crucial support to individuals and families experiencing economic difficulties.
The property, located at via Scanini 26, was acquired by Progetto Arca in 2024 as a dilapidated structure and has since undergone extensive renovation. The complex now offers nine studio apartments, 14 one-bedroom apartments, and two two-bedroom apartments, all fully furnished and ready for occupancy. Five of these units have already been assigned to residents.
Collaborative Investment and Support
The realization of Casa Seneca was made possible through the significant contributions of various private companies and the Municipality of Milan. Key partners who provided financial support or in-kind donations include Dils, Cariplo, Mediolanum, Jti, Banca d’Italia, Osama, and Unicredit.
Alberto Sinigallia, President of Fondazione Progetto Arca, emphasized the core philosophy behind the project. “Housing is a fundamental human right, and along with employment, it is the cornerstone upon which our activities are built. With the opening of Casa Seneca, we continue to shape our mission and offer hope to those who need our support to embark on a path of integration and recovery,” stated Sinigallia.
The “House First” Principle
The project operates on the “house first” principle, asserting that regaining independence and social well-being requires stable housing as a primary foundation. Tenants are granted the use of the apartments for a period of two years, during which they can focus on securing employment and building a new life path.
Beyond providing modern living spaces, including a children’s park and thoughtfully designed interiors, Progetto Arca has assembled a dedicated team of psychologists and professionals. This team will offer comprehensive support to residents throughout their journey toward social integration and personal empowerment.
A Hub for Social Redemption
Giuseppe Amitrano, CEO of Dils, one of the contributing partners, highlighted the broader societal impact of such initiatives. “We thank Fondazione Progetto Arca for their daily commitment to supporting the most vulnerable. This initiative reflects the spirit of ‘This is my Milano,’ our give-back project, through which we have promoted 144 initiatives and supported nearly 90 non-profit organizations,” commented Amitrano.
Casa Seneca represents a new chapter for many, offering a place for redemption and the opportunity to build new human stories. This project also serves as an example for other private entities to engage in social development within their communities. Progetto Arca’s challenge now is to sustain and expand this social housing endeavor, continuing to operate and grow its impact in the region.
The inauguration of Casa Seneca underscores a growing commitment from both public and private sectors in Milan to address housing insecurity and foster social inclusion, providing a vital stepping stone for vulnerable populations to rebuild their lives.
