Police Blitz in Rome: 40 kg of Drugs Seized, 5 Arrests Between Portuense and the Suburbs
Rome, March 5, 2026 – The State Police conducted a significant anti-drug operation in Rome, leading to the seizure of over 40 kg of narcotics, including hashish and marijuana, and more than 50,000 euros in cash. Five arrests have been made across various parts of the city, including the Portuense district and the eastern suburbs.
A ‘Drug Emporium’ Discovered in Portuense
The operation began after days of surveillance on a 57-year-old Roman woman, suspected of being a central figure in a drug supply network. Investigators from the VI Section of the Mobile Squad observed the woman delivering a dose directly to a buyer in her car. This led to an immediate intervention, with both the woman and the buyer being stopped and searched. Over 100 grams of marijuana were found hidden in the car door pocket and in her bag.
A subsequent search of her home in the Portuense district revealed what authorities described as a veritable ‘drug emporium.’ Inside the residence, police discovered over 36 kg of hashish and more than 6 kg of marijuana. The drugs were divided into blocks marked with names resembling confectionery brands, clothing labels, and cartoon characters. Additionally, 118 electronic devices containing THC were seized, along with various materials for packaging doses. A safe in a secluded room contained a jewelry box holding over 50,000 euros in cash, believed to be proceeds from her drug trafficking activities. The woman has been arrested and charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing.
Further Arrests in the Eastern Quadrant of the Capital
The anti-drug efforts extended to the eastern parts of Rome, resulting in additional arrests and seizures:
- San Basilio: A pusher was apprehended in the San Basilio area with 50 doses of cocaine and hashish. He was caught managing a series of quick meetings in front of a building’s entrance. Along with the drugs, he had 500 euros in cash, for which he could not provide a legitimate explanation.
- Ponte di Nona: In Ponte di Nona, a couple operating a drug dealing ring on Via Capitini was arrested. They had a strict division of roles: one handled contacts and payments, while the other was responsible for the physical delivery of the doses. They were caught in flagrante delicto with several packets of cocaine ready for sale.
- Quarticciolo: A woman was arrested in Quarticciolo, observed moving between a low wall and a designated delivery point a few meters away. She was stopped with 19 doses of cocaine, leading to her immediate arrest.
These coordinated actions by the State Police underscore ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and distribution networks within Rome. Investigations into the origins and wider connections of these operations are ongoing.
