Pantheon Ticket Prices to Increase to 7 Euros from July 1st

Rome, April 11 – The cost of admission to the Pantheon in Rome will increase from 5 to 7 euros, effective July 1st. This change comes as a result of a new agreement signed today between the Ministry of Culture and the Diocese of Rome. The agreement, which governs the use of the Pantheon – Basilica of Santa Maria ad Martyres, aims to update the collaboration between the two institutions for the management and enhancement of the monument, respecting its dual nature as both a cultural site and a place of worship.

New Agreement to Fund Cultural Initiatives

The primary change is the increase in the admission fee, which was initially introduced in July 2023 by the then Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, who stated that “things of value should be paid for.” The new 7-euro fee applies to the full-price ticket. The reduced ticket price of 2 euros for young people aged 18 to 25, and all existing free entry provisions, remain unchanged. This follows a similar measure in February, when a 2-euro fee was introduced for tourists visiting the Trevi Fountain.

Additional Funds to Support Libraries and Social Regeneration

The additional 2 euros generated from each ticket will be dedicated to initiatives under the “Olivetti Plan” for Culture. Specifically, these funds will support local libraries in disadvantaged areas and internal regions. These new resources are expected to contribute to strengthening access to culture, promoting cultural and artistic production, enhancing libraries and widespread cultural centers, and incentivizing social regeneration projects in marginalized territories.

This move formalizes the support for libraries that was previously established by the Culture decree, which contributed to the revitalization of the Italian publishing industry in the first months of 2026. This earlier initiative led to an increase in value of 11.3 million euros and 569,000 copies sold compared to the same period in the previous year.

A Model of Sustainable Management for National Heritage

The new agreement solidifies a management model where the enhancement of one of the most representative and visited monuments of national heritage – approximately 4.5 million visitors in 2025 – translates into concrete support for the dissemination of culture and the development of initiatives with positive repercussions for the social fabric of the nation.

The Pantheon remains a significant tourist attraction, and the increase in ticket prices is expected to generate substantial funds for cultural development. The decision reflects a broader trend in Italy to monetize access to its rich historical and artistic heritage to ensure its preservation and to fund related cultural activities.
