Nine Arrests in Rome for Thefts and Robberies

Rome, February 10 – The State Police in Rome have apprehended nine individuals in connection with a series of thefts and robberies that occurred across various parts of the city. The targeted locations included buses, bars, and shops in the Prati, Torrino, Eur, and Spinaceto districts. These arrests are the result of coordinated and meticulously planned operations by law enforcement.

Coordinated Police Operations Across Rome

The investigations led to the identification and arrest of nine individuals responsible for a string of thefts and robberies, both on the streets and within public establishments. The arrests took place in different quadrants of the city, underscoring the widespread presence and effectiveness of the police force throughout Rome.

First Incident: Pickpocketing in Prati

The initial incident unfolded in the Prati district. Officers from the Romanina Police Station had been tracking a rental car with four occupants, whose suspicious behavior and brief stops in front of various businesses raised alarms. After extensive observation, the group initiated their plan: while the driver waited with the engine running, the accomplices entered a targeted establishment. One individual distracted customers, while two women proceeded to steal a bag left on a chair.

The group was intercepted during their escape. Police found them in possession of the stolen goods, which had already been emptied of wallets, documents, and credit cards. All four individuals were arrested for aggravated pickpocketing in concert.

Attempted Robbery Foiled in Torrino: Bus Driver Attacked

A second intervention took place in the Torrino area, where a patrol from the Flying Squad promptly responded to a report of an assault on a bus driver. A couple had attempted to extort money from the driver under threat. The immediate arrival of the officers prevented the situation from escalating further.

The two accomplices were apprehended while attempting to flee. One of them resisted arrest, causing damage to the service vehicle. Both are now seriously implicated in the crime of attempted aggravated robbery in concert, with the man also facing charges of resisting a public official.

Theft and Attempted Robbery in an Eur Shop

In the Eur district, officers from the IX Esposizione District intervened at a clothing store following a call from the owner. A young man of Romanian origin was detained by security personnel as he attempted to exit a changing room with a stolen item of clothing, trying to evade detection. The young man resisted, assaulting the security manager, but was swiftly apprehended by the officers. They found wire cutters and an anti-shoplifting tag in his possession. He was arrested and is now seriously implicated in attempted robbery.

Robbery and Recovery of Stolen Goods in Spinaceto

Finally, in the Spinaceto district, two young individuals were arrested in flagrante by local police officers after robbing a man, taking his jacket, wallet, and some medications. During a personal search, other documents were found that had been stolen from other victims in previous days.

These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of the Roman police to combat crime and ensure public safety across the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
