Arezzo, March 15, 2026 – A 30-year-old Nigerian woman, resident in the province of Pescara, was arrested yesterday in the Arezzo area on charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing. The woman had traveled by train from Rome with approximately 700 grams of cocaine and heroin concealed within her body.

Arrest at Terontola Railway Station

The arrest took place at the Terontola railway station exit. Carabinieri from Cortona noticed the woman because she accelerated her pace upon seeing them, attempting to evade them. Suspicious of her behavior, the military personnel caught up with her and conducted a personal search, which yielded no immediate results. However, her excessive nervousness further aroused suspicion, leading the officers to escort her to the Arezzo hospital for further examination.

Medical Examinations Reveal Hidden Drugs

Radiographic examinations at the hospital confirmed the suspicions. Inside the woman’s body, doctors discovered 58 capsules containing cocaine and heroin, with a gross total weight of approximately 700 grams of narcotic substances. The drugs were immediately seized. Following the discovery, the 30-year-old woman was formally arrested and transferred to the Sollicciano correctional facility in Florence.

Investigation into Drug Origin Underway

Authorities are now focusing on the broader context of the case, aiming to determine the origin of the drugs and unravel the network involved in this illicit trafficking. Investigators will delve into the woman’s connections and movements to identify other individuals who may be implicated in the drug operation.

The successful apprehension highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking, particularly those utilizing public transportation routes for distribution across different regions.

This incident adds to a series of recent drug-related arrests in the central Italian region. In recent months, similar operations have led to the dismantling of several drug distribution networks, underscoring the persistent challenge posed by narcotics trade.

The Carabinieri of Cortona have reiterated their commitment to maintaining vigilance and employing all available resources to intercept drug couriers and disrupt the flow of illegal substances within the country.

Further details regarding the ongoing investigation are expected to be released as the case progresses.
