San Vito al Tagliamento: Interior Ministry Unblocks New Fire Station Project

SAN VITO AL TAGLIAMENTO (PORDENONE) – Good news has arrived from Rome for the entire Sanvitese area: the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, has given the green light to the funding for the new fire station, unblocking a process that had seemed stalled. Between 2027 and 2028, the firefighters will have a new and more suitable headquarters on Via Udine. Yesterday, Mayor Alberto Bernava went to the Viminale to receive the news directly from Piantedosi, together with Deputy Minister Vannia Gava, a strong supporter of the project.

“The executive project has been unblocked,” exclaimed Bernava. “The funding, which will allow for its realization, has been included in the three-year plan for 2027/29. I thank Minister Piantedosi and Deputy Minister Vannia Gava for this result.”

Project Costs and Institutional Collaboration

At present, it is not clear how much the entire project will cost – the previous estimate was 4 million euros – as this will be determined once the executive project is completed. However, discussions have begun regarding the framework agreement: the Ministry will be responsible for identifying the company that will carry out the construction, while the municipality will act as a liaison between the project itself and its impact on the territory, for example, by managing aspects related to any ancillary construction sites.

Commenting on the news, Deputy Minister Gava emphasized the teamwork between institutions, from the local to the state level, and thanked Piantedosi for “the constant support to our communities.” Marco Dreosto, regional secretary of the Lega party, shared the same sentiment. “When the territory works as a team and dialogues with the national level, results arrive. This is the right way to work: less controversy, more concrete results for families, mayors, and for those who ensure the safety of our territories every day.”

The commander of the Pordenone fire brigade, Giorgio Basile, was also very satisfied: “I am very happy,” he declared, “with the agreement between Bernava, Piantedosi, and Gava. The improvement of our service in the area is closely linked to the improvement of logistics.”

Strengthening Law Enforcement Presence

During the meeting, Bernava and Piantedosi also discussed the prison dossier, updating each other on the latest developments of the construction site. The mayor then reiterated the need for a State Police station in San Vito, which is currently unfeasible due to a lack of personnel. From the discussion, a more realistic alternative emerged that would resolve the issue.

“Piantedosi,” Bernava reported, “agrees with a strengthening of the garrison; he is the first to look favorably on the widespread presence of law enforcement, despite being aware of human resource difficulties. However, from this starting situation, the idea arose to strengthen the Carabinieri station by bringing a company to San Vito.” Through a compensation (no Police Station, yes strengthening of the Carabinieri), security in the area would therefore be strengthened.

A Long-Awaited Project

The fire station has been awaited for several years: under the Di Bisceglie administration, the area where it will be built, on Via Udine in Capraio, was identified. The current majority then completed the acquisition, free of charge. The location was considered “strategic” given its proximity to the industrial area and the bypass road. In 2022, it was hypothesized that the construction of the barracks, described as one of the “most extensive detachments in Italy,” would be completed as early as 2024. However, two years after the estimated completion date, the firefighters are still in Via Matteotti, in an unsuitable location: “An old building,” Bernava commented years ago, “that has needed intervention for many years.”

The new fire station represents a crucial step forward for the safety and emergency response capabilities of San Vito al Tagliamento and the surrounding region. The collaborative efforts of local and national authorities underscore a commitment to providing essential services and improving the quality of life for residents.
