Naples, January 6 – The Epiphany celebrations in Naples culminated yesterday, January 5th, with the highly anticipated White Night concert at Piazza Mercato. This event, part of the traditional Stocking and Toy Fair, saw thousands of attendees enjoying performances by various artists from the Neapolitan music scene.

Epiphany White Night: A Resounding Success in Piazza Mercato

Following the immense success of its previous editions, which saw an impressive 50,000 visitors over three days in 2025 alone, this year’s White Night further solidified its status as a beloved Neapolitan tradition. The Piazza Mercato transformed into a festive ‘Befana Village’, bustling with stalls offering stockings, toys, and sweets of all kinds.

The event, promoted and funded by the Department of Tourism and Productive Activities of the Municipality of Naples, was officially inaugurated by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Councillor Teresa Armato. The three-day festivities concluded with the White Night, which commenced at 9:00 PM on January 5th.

Star-Studded Performances Light Up the Stage

The stage, specially set up in Piazza Mercato, hosted a lineup of talented artists, including Mavi, Mr. Hyde, Gino Da Vinci, and I Ditelo Voi, who entertained the enthusiastic crowd.

Councillor Armato expressed her delight, stating, “Year after year, the Epiphany in Piazza Mercato proves to be an increasingly beautiful event. It is a heartwarming spectacle, dedicated to children who happily stroll among the stalls and watch the parades. We are pleased to remember the care and determination with which we wanted to restore this ancient Neapolitan tradition: the Epiphany celebration in Piazza Mercato. A square that is under the very strong attention of the administration.”

She further emphasized the administration’s vision for the area: “We want it to regain its vocation as a place of commerce, but also as a tourist and cultural destination. We have installed art pieces here, organized events, restored the Church of Santa Croce e Purgatorio, which is right in this splendid square, and we are opening it for exhibitions. There is a table that brings together institutions and local associations, whom we thank for once again bringing this beautiful Epiphany to life, which will attract as many visitors as in previous years.”

Piazza Mercato: A Hub of Revitalization

The resurgence of Piazza Mercato is not limited to the Epiphany festivities. The area has been undergoing significant revitalization efforts, transforming it from a neglected space into a vibrant cultural and commercial hub. This includes initiatives such as the ‘Sottencoppa – Neapolitan Sonic Carnival’ festival, which also uses Piazza Mercato as its central location for music, performances, and workshops for children. The Church of Santa Croce and Purgatorio, a historical landmark in the piazza, is actively being utilized for cultural events and exhibitions, including the Comicon off-site events. Furthermore, plans are underway to establish a student residence in a municipal building within the Complex of Sant’Eligio, and discussions are ongoing for a permanent craft market. These efforts, supported by a dedicated municipal task force and local associations like Assogioca and Altra Napoli, aim to combat micro-crime, reduce school abandonment, and enhance the area’s appeal. The presence of a fixed military patrol has also contributed to a renewed sense of safety and harmony in the evenings, encouraging new businesses to open. The city’s commitment to sustainable tourism is evident, aiming to attract visitors year-round while preserving the quality of life for residents.
