Naples Metropolitan Council Approves €7.6 Million for Vital Infrastructure and Environmental Projects
Naples, April 2, 2026 – The Naples Metropolitan Council has announced the approval of a substantial fund of €7.6 million dedicated to a series of critical interventions across the metropolitan area. The funding will primarily address seismic and fire safety upgrades in schools, extensive reforestation efforts, and the essential maintenance of historically significant buildings.
Key Allocations and Projects
The approved budget includes several key areas of investment:
- Schools: €4.6 million for seismic and fire prevention measures in various educational institutions. This includes the reprogramming of €1.2 million, financed by the European Union through the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), for structural adjustments in schools within the Naples North territorial area. Additionally, 3.4 million euros from PNRR resources will be directed towards urgent safety and fire prevention works in 10 school buildings. Beneficiary schools in Naples city include Mazzini, Nitti, Vittorini, Pansini, and Sbordone, while those in the metropolitan area are Cesaro-Vesevus (Torre Annunziata), Matilde Serao (Pomigliano d’Arco), Silvestri (Portici), Filangieri (Frattamaggiore), and Munari (Acerra).
- Environment: Over €2.8 million for urban reforestation initiatives, encompassing both inland and coastal areas. A specific allocation of €140,000, also from PNRR funds, will enhance the Taglia Park in Cardito with the planting of 5,000 new trees and shrubs, supplementing an initial €60,000 from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, bringing the total investment for the park to €201,000.
- Heritage Buildings: Funds for the maintenance of prestigious properties owned by the Metropolitan City, such as the headquarters of the Police Headquarters and the Prefecture of Naples.
- Villa Parnaso: Renewal of the free loan for use of Villa Parnaso to the Municipality of Torre Annunziata, facilitating redevelopment works and the installation of an elevator for students, citizens, and people with disabilities.
Metropolitan Mayor Gaetano Manfredi ratified several resolutions leading to these financial commitments, underscoring the administration’s focus on improving public safety, environmental sustainability, and accessibility.
