Naples Metropolitan City Leads “Guida ResponsabilMente” Project for Youth Road Safety
Naples, January 16, 2026 – The Metropolitan City of Naples, under the leadership of Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, has officially launched the “Guida ResponsabilMente” (Drive Responsibly) project. This crucial initiative is designed to prevent nocturnal road accidents, specifically targeting young drivers, and aims to cultivate a robust culture of road safety among the new generation.
The project, which received a grant of 100,000 euros from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Anti-Drug Policies, is promoted by ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities) in collaboration with UPI (Union of Italian Provinces). The Metropolitan City of Naples is the lead entity in a partnership that includes the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II and the Municipality of Naples with its Municipal Police Corps.
An Integrated Approach to Road Safety
The “Guida ResponsabilMente” initiative adopts a comprehensive three-pronged approach, involving several metropolitan schools across various districts. The core components are:
- Teacher Training: A professional development program curated by the University of Naples Federico II’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Architecture Engineering. This program aims to equip educators with specific competencies and consistent teaching methodologies for effective road safety education.
- Education and Awareness: An extensive educational campaign targeting high school students aged 15 to 18. This campaign will promote responsible driving behaviors through targeted training and information sessions, complemented by a broad communication strategy aimed at the entire local community.
- Territorial Controls: The Municipal Police of Naples will conduct evening and night-time road controls in areas frequently visited by young people. These controls are designed to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and deter dangerous driving practices.
Metropolitan Table for Safety Established
To ensure robust coordination, the Metropolitan City has established a metropolitan project coordination table. This table brings together all institutional and associative stakeholders in the region. In addition to the primary partners, participants include the Association of Road Victims, Unasca-Confarca, the Regional School Office for Campania, and the Local Health Authorities of Naples 1, 2, and 3. Furthermore, to enhance the impact of the activities, a connection has been established with the Road Accident Observatory at the Prefecture of Naples. An operational meeting among all partners was held today in the Borsellino Room of Palazzo Matteotti.
“This project represents a virtuous example of inter-institutional collaboration,” stated Luciano Borrelli, the Metropolitan City’s delegated councilor for Transport. “The objective is to create a protective network around our young people, providing them with the knowledge to understand the risks associated with impaired driving and promoting a culture of responsibility that can save lives.”
The “Guida ResponsabilMente” initiative is an integral part of the broader metropolitan policies for road safety, signifying a concrete investment in prevention and the education of future generations of motorists.
