Naples, February 20 – Domenico, a young patient at Monaldi Hospital in Naples, who has been on life support following a failed heart transplant on December 23, will now receive palliative care aimed at alleviating his pain. This development was confirmed by Francesco Petruzzi, the family’s lawyer, during a live television broadcast.
“We have requested Monaldi Hospital to initiate a shared care plan for Domenico, and the hospital has accepted,” stated Petruzzi. He clarified that this approach, introduced in 2017, is not euthanasia but rather a procedure designed to shift clinical therapy from curative measures to pain relief, avoiding therapeutic obstinacy.
Domenico’s mother, Patrizia, expressed her sorrow on the program ‘Dritto e rovescio,’ saying, “I am sorry, what I did was not helpful to my son. I wish I had discovered everything sooner. I would like my son’s story not to be forgotten.”
