Naples Celebrates Sea Day with Extensive Calendar of Events
Naples, March 19, 2026 – The city of Naples is set to host a comprehensive series of events in celebration of Sea Day, organized by the Logistics Command of the Italian Navy in partnership with the Association of Nautical Clubs of Campania. The initiative, primarily targeting students from Campania’s schools, aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the marine environment and related professional opportunities.
Educational Initiatives for Students
A key highlight of the program is the video-photographic and graphic arts competition titled “For me the sea is… (and I’ll tell you about it),” open to students of secondary schools in Campania. Participants are encouraged to express their connection to the sea through their artistic creations, highlighting the opportunities and perspectives it offers to younger generations.
Furthermore, from March 23 to April 1, student groups will have the chance to book visits to various local facilities, both civilian and military, to gain firsthand insight into maritime-related professions. This educational component is designed to provide practical exposure and inspire future careers in the marine sector.
Exhibitions and Conferences
The celebrations also include a model ship exhibition, which will be hosted at Villa Campolieto in Ercolano from April 4 to April 12. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the history and artistry of maritime craftsmanship.
On April 7, a conference dedicated to major maritime expeditions will take place. Inspired by the voyages of Christopher Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci, the conference will delve into historical maritime achievements, with a special focus on the origin of the name ‘America’.
“Sea Village” at the Navy Headquarters
The heart of the event will be the “Sea Village,” a vocational and educational hub set up at the Navy Headquarters’ naval base. This village will feature a series of marine-themed stands hosted by various commands and local organizations linked to the sea, catering specifically to secondary school students.
Adding to the program at the Naval Base, a conference on ‘maritime affairs’ is scheduled for April 8. The event will be held in the Caracciolo Hall of the Navy Headquarters, which will be officially inaugurated for the occasion following recent refurbishment works.
Awards Ceremony and Community Engagement
The concluding day, April 10, will feature an awards ceremony for the winning students of the “For me the sea is… (and I’ll tell you about it)” competition. Additionally, the “Campania Nautical Clubs Awards” and the “Excellence Award Mare Nostrum-Acnc” will be presented, recognizing outstanding contributions and achievements related to the sea.
Beyond the cultural and educational offerings, the program also includes initiatives open to the wider community, such as a free screening day for the diagnosis of pre-hip osteoarthritis, demonstrating a commitment to public health alongside maritime awareness.
This comprehensive series of events underscores Naples’ dedication to celebrating its rich maritime heritage and engaging both its youth and general public in the importance of the sea.
