Naples, March 30 – Today, a new and highly anticipated rooftop tour of the Naples Cathedral officially opened to the public. This initiative, promoted by the Fondazione Napoli C’entro with the support of several foundations, allows visitors to explore the city from a unique perspective, 40 meters above street level. The inauguration ceremony took place at 11:30 AM at the new infopoint of the MUDD (Museo Diocesano Diffuso) in the Cathedral courtyard.
A Unique Perspective of Naples
The newly accessible route offers breathtaking panoramic views of Naples, stretching from the Vomero hill to the historic city center, and from the eastern zone to the Vesuvius area and the islands of the Gulf. What makes this tour particularly special is the internal view it provides, allowing visitors to appreciate the intricate details of the Cathedral’s ancient Angioina structure, including frescoes and original supporting elements, which predate the current edifice.
The restoration work on the Cathedral’s rooftops, which cost 4 million euros, was completed in 2015 as part of the “Historic Center of Naples, UNESCO” Grand Project. Now, thanks to the collaboration between the Fondazione Napoli C’entro, the Cathedral Chapter, and the Municipality of Naples, this significant historical and architectural space is fully returned to public enjoyment.
Anticipated Tourist Attraction for Easter
This new attraction is expected to significantly boost Naples’ tourism offerings, especially with the upcoming Easter holidays. Initial interest has been remarkably high, with numerous bookings already made. Visitors can reserve their spots through the official websites duomonapoli.it and muddnapoli.it. An entrance fee is required, and access to the rooftops will be via an elevator. Notably, residents of Naples will be granted free access, accounting for ten percent of the total visitors.
Dignitaries Attend Inauguration
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Governor Roberto Fico, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, Cardinal Don Mimmo Battaglia, Vincenzo Porzio, Director of the Fondazione Napoli C’entro, Stefano Consiglio, President of Fondazione con il Sud, and Noemi Cangiano from the MUDD. Their presence underscored the significance of this project for the cultural and tourism landscape of Naples.
This new rooftop tour not only provides an extraordinary experience for tourists but also highlights the rich historical and architectural heritage of the Naples Cathedral, offering a fresh perspective on one of Italy’s most vibrant cities.
