Naples Prepares for Summer with Limited Beach Cleaning Staff

Naples, May 29, 2026 – As the summer season approaches, the City of Naples is moving forward with its free beach plan, aiming to provide accessible and clean coastal areas for thousands of bathers. However, a significant challenge has emerged: only 10 dedicated personnel have been allocated for the daily cleaning and maintenance of the city’s extensive coastline. This limited staffing for 15 coastal stretches, extending from Bagnoli to San Giovanni a Teduccio, necessitates extraordinary efforts to ensure proper sanitation.

Extraordinary Measures Precede Concessions

The Neapolitan coastline is gearing up to welcome a massive number of visitors. The municipality is expediting efforts to restore decorum to public beaches, with special teams working to overcome organizational hurdles before the official start of summer. Despite these efforts, the administration’s reliance on just ten workers to cover the entire city’s coastline for daily cleaning of free beaches highlights a critical understaffing issue. The management of these numerous coastal areas will require exceptional dedication from the small team.

Mayor Manfredi’s Institutional Promise

Mayor Gaetano Manfredi has expressed confidence in the timely activation of essential beach services. “By June 1st, the municipal beaches will be equipped,” Manfredi announced via his social media channels. Meanwhile, city offices are closely monitoring the assignment of coastal lots by the port authority. A swift concession process is expected to streamline the overall logistical management of public spaces, ensuring that bathers find clean and accessible free areas.

Free Access to Naples Beaches Without Reservation

A notable change for the upcoming bathing season is the elimination of online reservations for entry to municipal beaches. The administration has opted to increase the total area designated for free public use. However, this open access model necessitates constant vigilance regarding urban hygiene. Asìa teams are tasked with daily waste collection from the beaches. The success of this plan, therefore, heavily relies on the civic responsibility of beachgoers.

Asìa Sea Operational Program

Asìa, the municipal company responsible for urban hygiene, is coordinating logistical activities both on land and at sea. This specialized program covers fifteen historic coastal sections, from Bagnoli to San Giovanni a Teduccio. The coastal cleaning schedule will run from May 1st to October 31st. The ten dedicated staff members, led by an experienced team leader, form small two-person teams to clean Naples’ free beaches. This rotation of personnel is crucial for covering kilometers of coastline effectively.

Ecological Vehicles for Minimal Environmental Impact

Asìa operators are utilizing modern equipment designed to minimize atmospheric and acoustic emissions. The cleaning teams navigate the beaches exclusively using electric Porter flatbed vehicles. Mechanical rakes, beach cleaners, and lawnmowers also employ zero-impact motors. Furthermore,
