Milan, February 5 – A Milan elementary school music teacher has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for aggravated sexual violence and enticement against seven female students under the age of 10. The teacher, 45, was found guilty by GUP Domenico Santoro in an expedited trial, which includes a one-third reduction in sentence.

Teacher Arrested in Flagrante Delicto

The 45-year-old teacher was arrested on February 10, 2025, after being caught in the act of abuse by micro-cameras placed in the school by the local police’s women and minors protection unit, which led the investigation. Judge Alessandra Di Fazio subsequently validated the arrest and ordered pre-trial detention in prison. The teacher remains in custody.

Investigation Uncovers More Victims and Threats

The investigation continued with protected hearings of other alleged victims, in addition to the initial ones identified, and through incident evidence. According to court documents, the man allegedly threatened the students by telling them he would ‘fail’ them if they spoke out. He is also accused of committing abuses in empty classrooms or a ‘storage room,’ and at times, in the presence of other students in the classroom.

School Principal’s Report Initiated Investigation

The inquiry began after a report was filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office on January 10 of the previous year by the school principal. The Public Prosecutor had requested a 10-year sentence for the accused, but the judge imposed an even higher penalty.

This case has sent shockwaves through the Milanese community, highlighting the critical need for vigilance and protection of children in educational settings. The swift action of law enforcement and the judiciary in this case underscores the commitment to holding perpetrators of such heinous crimes accountable.

The trial’s expedited nature, which allows for a reduced sentence in exchange for a guilty plea or a simplified trial procedure, reflects the seriousness of the charges and the desire for a timely resolution for the victims and their families. The detailed evidence, including the micro-camera footage and protected testimonies, played a crucial role in securing the conviction.

Community Reaction and Future Implications

The news of the conviction has been met with a mix of relief and sorrow within the community. Parents and educators are grappling with the implications of such a breach of trust within a school environment. There is an increased focus on reviewing and strengthening safeguarding policies in schools across Milan and Lombardy to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Organizations dedicated to child protection have reiterated their calls for comprehensive training for all school staff, mandatory background checks, and clear reporting mechanisms for suspected abuse. The case serves as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers that can exist and the importance of creating safe spaces for children to learn and grow.

The long-term impact on the young victims will undoubtedly be profound, and support services are being made available to help them cope with the trauma. The legal proceedings have brought a measure of justice, but the healing process for those affected will continue for years to come.

This case also brings to light the broader issue of child abuse in society and the ongoing efforts required to combat it. It emphasizes the collective responsibility of communities, institutions, and individuals to protect the most vulnerable among us.
